Kind of an odd title
The belief that this is the current rule or contract changes will not happen is odd.
In recent years the P5 gained autonomy and athletes now receive FCOA.
Those are huge changes and some saw those coming.
Take the CFP deal most likely it will get tweaked slightly.
All the revenue could go to the participants if six teams were involved.
Five P5 champs one at large open for ant conference gets an extra one sixth no G5 payout. A G5 conference could get the at large spot but probably never will.
The six independent programs include some pretty high level programs.
Two schools with championship history in football.
One with four titles in basketball and two more strong basketball programs.
Five of the six are highly rated academically .
Compare the six as a whole to the G5 conferences .
They compare well with the top of the MWC or AAC and favorably to the other three.
They could get a more equal share and Access Bowl access.
The P5 is not hurt by allowing BYU especially access to the Access bowl.
The Big Twelve would benefit if they need a replacement by BYU elevating their program.
Liberty was a special case I get that.
The reason for the invitation rule is to assure a move up program can fill out a FBS schedule.
Six independents could provide that for the right candidate.
No idea what will happen but I doubt things stay the same .
I also doubt there is a grand plan .
Take the conference championship game rule.
It caused realignment leading to the WAC losing football.
Then went to ten causing NMSU and Idaho to lose their spot.
If at ten from the beginning all the G5 conferences look different.
The MWC, AAC, C- USA and Sun Belt at ten teams.
I see no reason BYU and U Conn could not get a better contract the next CFP.

I don't think the country club (P5) cares about the keeping the American Legion hall exclusive .
I think in conference play BYU would have a better shot. More to play for making the CCG and winning it. The last time they finished ranked below #10 was about 10 years ago. And as an Indy they have only gotten to 10 wins 1 time, the first year in Independence. In the preceding 10 years, 5 times they had 10 plus wins.....
11 wins 3 times
10 wins once
12 wins once

Sure—when you look at the future of college football, change is always possible. But when looking at what might happen—you need to consider who is doing the voting. Will Indy’s get more money and increased chance at an access bowl? Probably not. You see—-The CFP doesn’t really have much of an indy voting block. It’s basically an organization of CONFERENCES with Notre Dane thrown in.

Sure—when you look at the future of college football, change is always possible. But when looking at what might happen—you need to consider who is doing the voting. I get that but the P5 basically make the rules.
Do they consider Army, U Conn and BYU as equals or near equals or UL- Monroe ?
Not that any P5 is getting equal treatment.
Army with huge fan interest and Heisman winners and championships patriotism on their side vs Direction St U .
I pull for CCU but their not in Army , U Conn or BYU's league in any category except baseball.
Could be a three loss BYU with five P5 games vs two loss AAC team for the Access Bowl debate .

They are not hurt, but they also don't care. The P5 conferences are happy to take their money and their access and let the G5 conferences decide on the rest.
That does mean that the G5 conferences have effectively ganged up to shortchange BYU and the other indies on both money and access, but it doesn't look like the P5 conferences are bothered enough to do anything about it.
