This is why Aresco threw up his trial balloon last month when he said AAC would look at getting rid of East/West Divisions in Football...as he knew UCONN wouldn't be around in 2020...so AAC would most likely have just 11 teams in 2020 (might have another by 2021 to go back to even divisions).

You either need divisions or a full round robin schedule to have a championship game. Short of shoots done this theory.
AAC will get a one year waiver to host a conf championship game in 2020 (with help from ESPN/ABC since ABC loves our time slot and ratings on Championship Saturday) as the AAC will promise to be back at 12 football teams in 2021.
It's basically a done deal (hence why Aresco pushed that concept last month...which is what will most likely happen in 2020).

the rules allow for divisions to be uneven....they have to be "as even as possible", but they can be uneven
and UConn leaving has nothing to do with needing to change the rules for what he wants
with or without UConn the AAC is in the same position relative to the rules and that is the only way to have the top teams in the conference play in the CCG is to play a full conference round robin

so an 11 team conference can have divisions of 6 and 5 (they cannot have 7 and 4 because that is not as even as possible)
the MAC was unbalanced in 2000, 2001, and 2007 and had a CCG all three years
the rule changed allowed a CCG with fewer than 12 teams and the requirement that for a conference to put their top two teams in the CCG they had to play a full conference round robin
before that there was no need for that requirement because it was required to have at least 12 teams to have a CCG and no conference was going to play 11 conference games and the CCG would match the division winners
so again the AAC can actually do either under the rule.....they can have the allowed divisions of 6 and 5 and play a divisional round robin and have the division winners in the CCG or they AAC could play 10 conference games and have the two best teams in the CCG
I think the AAC should show everyone they are "P6" and move to 10 conference games because it is a terrible idea and more conference games is horrible for a conference
either way the AAC can have uneven divisions and a CCG as long as the divisions are 6 teams and 5 teams and the division winners are in the CCG
so UConn leaving is no reason at all to need the rule changed

I've never been a big Aresco fan, but I think he's likely to know the minds of the conference commissioners and school presidents who would have to approve a change to the CCG rulebook.
We can google up the NCAA rulebook, and prove with geometric logic what things are and aren't allowed on paper. But we can't google up what the other FBS commissioners have said privately to each other, what school presidents have said to each other, etc.
I think the rules-on-paper are a lot less important than the "temperature of the room."

The hell he knows about reading the temp in the room? The guy has accomplished literally nothing that any of us mouth breathing message board fans could have done. Problem is he has earned $10mm.
