The folks in Austin must be crying in their beer. Texas did win the NIT this year (with a memorable victory over Lipscomb). But they have been passed by Tech and Houston while watching the coach they fired light up Tennessee. They must be wondering when their $3.3 million contract with Shaka Smart will get them what they thought they were buying (NCAA victories, not NIT victories; conference championships, not participation ribbons). Shaka's best year at Texas was year #1 with Rick Barnes roster. If it wasn't for that $13 million buyout...
Barnes seemed to have plateaued at Texas, but he should not be underestimated. He's won everywhere.
Shaka has yet to prove himself at Texas.

No doubt Texas Tech and UH have the 2 best basketball programs in the state of Texas right now. Tech lost a ton from the 2018 team that made the Elite 8 but reloaded and played for a National Championship in 2019.

That Texas Tech played for a MBB National Championship in 2019??? Yes, I guarantee it but I hated the OT loss to Virginia.
I hope we can win the championship in 2020 which is the next time the game will be played. I think the Final 4 will be played in Atlanta.

So memorable I remember nothing about it. Winning the NIT is worthless. Making it is all that really counts in the grand scheme of things.
Shaka Smart is the most overrated coach I can think of, he has yet to field an elite team. He rose to stardom with a mid-major fantasy that got hot in a tournament they didn't deserve to play in with his patented style. He's gotten away from that and now he sucks. Texas was a horrible fit, he should have gone to the ACC, Big East or Pac-12.

I thought that one of the programs would be TCU.
If you don't count regional 3rd place games, TCU has won 2 NCAA tournament games. Before Dixon was hired, they hadn't been to the tourney in 20 years. Their all-time winning percentage is .466. By any metric, they're one of the worst 5 all-time P5 basketball programs.
And now Jamie Dixon has gotten them 67 wins over 3 years.
