I feel like this time last year we knew almost all of UAB's 2019 schedule, but the only thing that seems to be locked in right now is Memphis.

UAB isn't doing a Thanksgiving tournament according to the list on bloggingthebracket, which I think we mostly knew...or it was being hinted at.

I can't find it right now, but there's that large Google Doc that has the schedules for each team. Anyone happen to have the link? The last time I found it they only had the Memphis game.

Now that recruiting is (probably) wrapped up, I'd love to get some scheduling news.
no preseason tourney's please...they are not kind to us
We should absolutely play a preseason tourney every year. Our goal should be to put together the best schedule possible every year. Not playing a preseason tournament hurts this cause tremendously.
All I have seen is that we’re hosting Memphis and Illinois State. Take a year off from Auburn. Sign a fair 2 for 2. Can probably expect to see a home game vs Troy.

When has playing in a preseason tournament benefited us? It puts us in a hole far too early, and frankly we’re all tired of it. Go receive a check and play a road game in front of actual fans.

I forgot about Illinois State, that's an exciting one! Just skimmed through their KenPom and it seems like last season was an odd down year, even with quite a bit of upper class talent. They've been a KenPom Top-150 team each of the 6 seasons prior to their down year last season.

I do disagree with you about your assessment of feast week tournaments. With CUSA's current TV contract(s), they're one of the few times you can expect to see UAB on national television. Last year's tournament was the only time they were on one of the main ESPN channels. The other one is purely that it's fun for the players. It sounded like, despite their record on the court, everyone on the team had a good time in Orlando.

Still working on it. Have heard of some teams we will be playing on the road that could elevate the schedule if all goes through. Unfortunately I can’t share names.

When has the preseason tournament destroyed us? If the options are Alabama A&M or the tournament, go play the tournament. Toughen up and win some games while there too.

3-15 in such games over last 7 seasons. Plus, part of the job of our AD and/or Coach is scheduling. Why continue to do what hasn’t gotten you much of anywhere?

If AAMU is your only option outside of a preseason tourney, you aren’t being aggressive or ambitious enough. That’s regardless of what ties you have in the coaching ranks.
Newberry, Young Harris, and Mississippi College haven't released their schedules either. 05-stirthepot

So we have the stature and profile to sign 2 for 2s with teams coming off a Final 4 run? Let's get UVA, Michigan State and Texas Tech at Bartow also.

I think we should sell ourselves as the team that will get you to the Final 4. See Butler, VCU, Memphis, Auburn, and others I'm probably forgetting.

Absolutely!
You want to be relevant again, go out and play relevant games. If that means playing in tournaments or on the road then do it. You can't win big games if you never play in big games. It also works the other way. Load up the schedule with cupcakes and you increase your chances of getting beat by one.

Not too long ago when people gave af about this program, we would have argued that we should have been setting the terms for a series against AU. However, we’ve had no attempt to stop this nosedive we continue to take. We’ve completely given up on going after an at-large bid, when it’s really not all that far out of sight.

I just keep thinking if you continue to do what you’ve always done, you’ll continue to get what you’ve always got.

I’m stubborn. I understand you want to have UAB on national tv in a tournament with notable teams. I’m just over getting embarrassed on national tv. Would rather we go into a hostile environment on the road and hope there’d be some focus rather than giving a vacation during the season.
The schedules the last few years were not good.
Neither was the support.
We can do better.
I’m going to push my support higher and work to get more people to attend.
We all can make it known that we appreciate our team and a tougher schedule.
I like the pod aspect. The result of improved schedules should be better attendance.
Better marketing should also improve attendance.
Went to the movies with grandkids the other day. Cost like $100 for 4 with a drink and snack.
Concert cost was like $600 for 2 great tickets.
Cost is not an issue.
Buy season tickets for football, basketball and $65 cards for other sports.
Don’t wait for it to be torn apart.
Bingo.

I know of a couple road games against power teams and that’s all I can say. One is winnable one will be tough to get out with a w. Not much to tell but they are trying. There is a shift with the sec programs not wanting to give home games anymore to non power programs. It will happen less and less. Even less than now. It’s getting tougher for most folks to get a power team in their place. That’s why getting them on a neutral floor in a pre Christmas tourney is big.

I do know we reached out to Mississippi state and they told us to pound sand.
Then find other teams. We’ve put the list of mid majors worth a damn in the region together multiple times. Are they all above us too? Or are we thinking we are above them? Three Belmont/Murray st/etc games are going to be better for us than any d2 game. Home and home should be a no brainer.
It’s not as easy as people think. Takes two to tango and even if the two want to play the dates may not work out.
We better not play any D3 schools this year
Just curious who does the scheduling at UAB most places someone like the Director of basketball operation with help from head coach make it. Does anyone know ?
We have never played a D3 school that I am aware of.

Assistant, HC, and some AD input.
