We’ve seen the announcements of South Florida and Memphis getting 2 for 1s. It would be great to schedule a P5 school for the new stadium. Just something to discuss until the season starts.
I’m a little torn on the opener...either get the biggest name we can (someone expected to be ranked) or get a sacrificial lamb and slaughter it

I vote sacrificial lamb. Opener should be packed no matter who we play, so I say save a big game for later in the season or maybe the second season in.
I wouldn't doubt UAB's chances of getting one with a school like Maryland or something. But the advanced scheduling of these games is out of control. I know you have to schedule stuff in advance, but I'm already dying for that 2020 game against South in Mobile.

Well maybe not for the opener but maybe during the season?
The first game would an opportunity for a lot of press. The recruiting around Birmigham is one of best in the country. A P5 might see this as a unique opportunity. Teams like TCU, UCLA, Michigan and Indiana come to mind but Alabama A&M and State have stayed with us so I’d give them the nod. Really anyone but Troy.
I don't see us doing that to open the stadium. Per HCBC we will play one FCS team and one money game on the road each season.

2021
09/11 - at Georgia
09/25 - at Tulane
10/02 - Liberty

I see us playing A State or A&M again to open it. We only have one open spot and no FCS team scheduled.

I'll be honest. We won't need a big name opponent to have a great crowd or a sellout if we keep the course. I do see us doing that in the future though if the right opportunity presents itself. HCBC did say that scheduling has become more difficult recently now that folks know we are good.

2022
09/10 - at Liberty
09/17 - Georgia Southern

2023
09/09 - at Georgia Southern

2025
09/05 - at New Mexico State
09/13 - Akron

I'd say 2022 and beyond it could happen but then again we may be in a new conference in 2022 and be able to offer more at the table than we have today.

If we keep the course could we have a shot at a 1 for 1 with a low level P5? Maybe just wishful thinking...
I’d like to maybe do a home and home with a major G5 team like Boise or UCF too.
I think A&M or Alabama State would be a better crowd than Duke or Maryland, no matter the stadium.
my vote is to try to line up a 2 for 1 with Iowa State...but thats just me 03-wink

I think you're right04-cheers
Unless we need the extra dollars I'd rather just schedule A&M or ASU for attendance as well.

I don't foresee Maryland giving us a game. While the final score doesn't show it, we were just a couple of mistakes away from beating them in College Park during our 2nd D1 season. They're not good enough to be confident about beating us in B'ham and can't afford the risk to their B10 credibility.
What are the chances of an H&H with Duke since their coach is a B'ham native (Banks HS grad)? Since Nebraska played at USM and Missouri played at Troy, perhaps they or a similar program might be approachable.
Would get Memphis on the Schedule and have Watson as the visiting coach then that way we will for sure.

For attendance I would rather play jax state or North Alabama.

I would think Stanford or USC owes a game. that's the way I see it.
