Full Version: How high do you think our Class of 2020 will likely be ranked this time next year?

I will be interested to see how Penny does with the 2020 class. He and James Wiseman both admitted how involved James was in recruiting others to come play with him at Memphis. Things snowballed from there and Penny was able to knock it out of the park. I would think next time around could be a lot harder. Who will we be able to get in the early signing period this coming November that is highly ranked and could be that anchor for us? Is Jalen Green still a strong possibility to sign with Memphis, and to do so in the early signing period, now that Sam Mitchell is no longer on the staff? I've heard that Mike Miller has built a good relationship with him this past year, but the kid is from California, and will be heavily recruited by everyone? Greg Brown is from Austin, TX. Most crystal ballers already show Texas and Kansas as the favorites. Would any of these elite prospects from outside of Memphis be willing to sign early, or would they likely wait to see how Memphis does with this #1 class before they decide if Memphis is the choice next Spring? Will Matthew Murrell stay in Memphis now that Coach Phillips is at Vandy?

Will be much more impressed if our staff is able to pull off anything close to replicating the success we had this year when we complete the 2020 class.
I'm really concerned about 2035. I just hope somehow we don't fall apart and lose the momentum we've been building lest we become another Kentucky with that ancient Memphis reject coaching from his rascal. I'm worried the babies being born right now might not want to play for Memphis anymore. Its not like it was in 2003 when all the babies wanted to come to hoop city.
probably top 10. I would be surprised if we were top 5 due to the class more than likely consisting of no more than 4.
I think some of it will depend on how we do this year how we look and how high guys go in the draft. I don’t think we can have the no. 1 recruiting class next year because too many people will be coming back. I do think we’re gonna get some of these guys we’re in on. The iron is too hot Penny’s rolling too strong to not have a top 5 -10 class next year.
We've identified our top 4 targets.

I think Penny and Mike will land at least 3 of them.
I really want Jalen Green and Greg Brown. That would be phenomenal. I think we’ll need to add a grad transfer big or two as well + one more SF type and we’ll be really good next year.
So much depends on how this year turns out...

I agree with this. Brown needs to be one of them.

There are a lot of variables, but this is the right answer. If Penny can “do with” (last year he showed he can “do without “), then future recruiting should be great.
Appreciate those who have responded to the question. Was curious how optimistic most of you were our staff could replicate something like this next year, since early signing will start in less than 6 months. Recruiting is always the lifeblood of every program.

I would be more impressed with our class being in Top 10 next year, than I am being #1 with current class. Just because we won’t have the same scenario next time around without James.
