This is just so weird. Im not sure Blake could win NIU's fastest man much less the NFL's.
I’ll be honest, i didn’t even realize he was still in the NFL and that the Falcons picked him up again. No shade to Blake at all because I want to see all Huskies succeed, but this was definitely a shocker. Looking forward to seeing how he does

In somewhat making light of Blake's "speed", it got me looking at the current roster for someone I could label as faster than Blake. I'm still looking....didn't realize the serious dearth of real speed on this roster. Oddly enough Hammock "let go" of two of our fastest guys in Fotis and Rowell. Fotis had a great 55M time and Rowell had a great 100m. The only guy left with legit speed is Nettles. And Collins when he arrives. I only say legit in terms of having some officially timed sprint. After Nettles I can't find a guy on the roster with any legit speed. Some guys do fine on the eye test, like Spears, but I don't think anyone is going to scare defenses into soft coverage. Same for our secondary. Remember what UAB's wr did?

Xavier Ubosi, dude had some type of day for UAB, he looked like a man against boys that game. But Ubosi went undrafted, and I looked up his pro day #s (below), he ran a 4.5 40. That's good but not elite, which points to what we all saw, our guys are abit slow. This thread in general is abit concerning, but I am taking a big leap of faith in Coach Hammock to field a very strong team.
BTW, I see the Patriots just signed Ubosi.

If Rowell was really that fast Hammock would’ve found him to be useful. Also Koko played some last year. He was asked to fair catch. Must not have been game breaking speed or Carey would have given him the opportunity to take one to the house. I will agree with you on Nettls though. He’s TLL fast.

Rowel has incredible straight line speed. 10.89 100m. That's super fast(Aregeros Turner PR was 11.07). But he wasn't quick(55M 6.64). He even looked slow. He may have been better off lining up at outside WR. Koko was the opposite. Super quick. His 55M time of 6.33 is crazy good. The current fastest HS kid in the state and maybe the country, Marcellus Moore, best is 6.34. But Koko can't maintain that speed as his 100m best is 11.79. Nettles was 6.44 55M. I don't really care these guys are gone. They may have been fast, but not good enough. I'm just using them to point out our team's lack of speed.
Just looking at our skill guys: Robinson, Tucker, Harbison, Tears, Jones....any real speed there? IDK about Richie. It's not that these guys had to run track to prove their fast, I'm just asking...do any of these guys look that fast? None of them do to me. All 5 may be on the field at the same time quite often this year. It doesn't mean they can't be great players, just that there will be less big plays, tighter defenses and a need for longer sustained drives.

I disagree with you analysis. We could of had Devin Hester returning kicks last year and Carey would of asked him to fair catch. Carey, to no surprise to any one on this board was Mr. Conservative. Koko saw the field as a true freshman and now is gone. Alot of unknown potential. But time to turn the page and see what new guys got. There is no fast receiver out of current group, hopefully, one of the new guys has game breaking speed.

I never viewed him as fast either. Track speed doesn't always translate onto the football field. Whether its hesitancy of what to do, fear of getting hit or uncomfortable in the pads, IDK. But then again I never got to see him running 100% full out.
After seeing this post yesterday, I researched Blakes recruiting profile on 247 sports......Surprisingly, he was only a two star recruit but had Power 5 offers from Missouri and Syracuse. Thad Ward must have been big and getting him to choose our Huskies.....
I will always remember Blake for making that bobbling catch at Nebraska. He caught the ball around Nebraska's 10 yard line and then took a big hit, bobbled the ball, recovered it, and was down around the 2. It was a huge play in that drive that could have easily been a fumble. Huff pounded it in on the very next play to take the lead for good.

I think on that same drive he made a really nice over-the-shoulder grab on a Deep ball from Santa that set up that score. I never thought much of Blake until his final season. He really developed himself through the seasons..

I understand it was a very small sample size, but when he did return kicks and not fair catch them he just didn’t look all that explosive. When Aregeros Turner and TLL first returned kicks you could see the breakaway speed immediately.
