Memphis was founded by John Overton, James Winchester, and Andrew Jackson on 22 May 1819.

Doesn't really matter these days. The name will probably be changed anyway.
Memphis Egypt kept slaves, so...
yep

On the day we were officially anointed the top recruiting class in America.

Delivered by one of our favorite Memphians of all time...

I couldn't write a better script for a movie..

I'd Chronicle Penny's efforts and name the movie...

Lol, and landed a Top 150 recruit. I wish him all the best of success at High Point. It's a great place for him to sail off into retirement.

o yeah you nailed me.

BTW, just for kicks, how much you wanna bet.
I wasn't talking to you.
Well, it's a shame that something so special couldn't be celebrated and devolved into an argument in 5 posts.

Perfect name for a city, and it fits us well. We have a pretty awesome history, and I'm excited about our future. All things look bright athletically and we are currently in a boom. New stuff being built everywhere. Memphis is mentioned in more songs than any other city in the world.

Agreed. Upvote.
Chill, alfonso.
I have never once in my life heard someone say that the name of this city should change.

Grow up and quit being a garbage user here taking up bandwidth.
I do wonder why they picked "Memphis" for the name.... could it be that the Mississippi reminded them of the Nile?
Similar reason for Cairo IL.

Pronounced Kay-ro, tho.

Cairo IL is legitimately one of the most depressing places I know of.

Actually it's also pronounced like Care-Row also. Depends on how the natives feel like saying it. And the area is known as Little Egypt. Which some say is th southern most third of the state...which includes the Metro East area. Closer to Kay-ro or Cars-Row, but NOT Ky-Row, there's an Egyptian Pharoah High School, Karnak, IL and various places named Little Egypt.
