I would say some kind of positive track record with college football would be a good box to check off before granting an interview.

negotiating tv deals. securing sponsors, raising money, managing people
Proven fund raiser at a P5 or D1 football school as the AD, not the associate.

Did our previous AD excel in that area.... seems that there was a lot left to be desired/accomplished.... Memphis needs an Ambassador for the "community" in the "worst" way ASAP.... My opinion is such that football or Memphis the University must focus primarily on this "critical" element to create an "all-around" WINNING solution...... E.P. is that Ambassador that is capable of this task.... as opposed to frequenting C.C.'s partaking in the finest imported cigars and cognacs 05-nono.....Success of Memphis begins and ends with "community"
If you watched the press confernce link I posted below (to date only 210 people have watched it) you would get a good feel for where this search is headed. One item mentioned was the posibility of using a search firm to find the right person. The U of M has done this before. I think the firm they used is in Plano, TX and they found us...... Justin Fuente. Normally, the search firm and the U of M selection committee will set a list of criteria for the person the U of M wants. Football is the potetially big money sport, so that will be a very important criteria for finding a new AD. Football success is not everything but.....it is important.

1. Penny didn't have zero experience.

2. There were a lot of immediate upside reasons to hire Penny despite his limited experience.

3. Even though it has paid off in spades so far, hiring Penny was a tremendous risk with a huge amount of downside if things went (go) south.

4. There's about zero chance EP will be the next AD and no real reason to think he'd be good at the job.

the community doesn't have any money.
If you want an Ambassador, name him fing ambassador and parade him around.

EP has too much going on to consider the job. He is a community leader and involved in many projects and is not your typical ex NBA player. Very intelligent, a good artist and philanthropist. I don’t think CFB is his thing anyway.

They can be proven at another establishment, however, it's very difficult to translate here as both of our flagship sports have off-campus venues....This is unique to Memphis an poses quite the challenge ..... The "community" Memphis is extremely unique and must be treated in a way where it feels that they are welcomed; appreciated;acknowledged and heard when it comes to Memphis athletics.... I sincerely feel the work that Norvell and Penny have done....A.D.'s, meh 01-wingedeagle not soo much
It's not Socks!

Just sayin!
Also a proven AD simply because I think the conference and media landscape will really be changing the next 5-10 years.

the community doesn't have any money.

That's a major issue and that's where those that attempt to be successful here in this "unique" situation are severely misinformed.... and I can give you a "personal" example....

It's very evident that a huge percentage of Memphis "community" earnings go to corner stores; liquor stores (lottery scratch-off tickets); Tunica etc (quantify that)....of course it presents a tremendous challenge.... We must be cognizant and willing to admit/accept the fact that Memphis athletics can and should do a much better job of painting a portrait for Memphis youth sports programs.... How much revenue has been generated by "Penny" during his career at MSU? How much of that revenue is put into Binghampton to support that "community's" growth/development; desire to show support for the University

We always admire U of L $ucce$$e$.... Louisville is NOT much different economically than Memphis, if NOT worse, however, their community fully supports that University in a major way.... As they feel involved;appreciated and welcomed.....And you can feel that, hear and see that when they travel here for games

Understandably so, just acknowledging a "glaring" void in the building of this University and I see Elloitt performing at a magnitude that could resurrect/establish and set the foundation that's critical to reach U
