The NCAA says they will punish teams that don't reach some future unspecified scholastic rquirements???? As of now, the 1st year the school will get a warning, then they will lose a scholarship the 2nd year and maybe the 3rd year not be allowed in post season play!! Sometime between now and 2006 they will decide on the academic requirements. If they stay with this, the only change you will see is a couple of guys on the end of the bench every year that are there to graduate not to play basketball. This has been very common on some teams for many, many years, now the other teams will do it too!!! No longer can you play non collegiate teams, I believe starting in 2005. This was to stop the colleges from playing AAU teams that had coaches that funneled players to their school and getting paid to play an AAU team he coached. No more farm teams sponsored by Kansas, OU, etc. I like this rule because some smaller colleges will get to play some big time teams!!
Some of the posters on the CUSA board might be glad to have the likes of Tulsa, Rice and SMU in CUSA if they follow through with academic part of new NCAA rules for eligibilty for post season play!!! 04-bow The Presidents at the NCAA meeting said they are going to have the new rules in effect in 2006 and some of our fellow CUSA schools might end up ineliglble for bowl games or post season BB tournaments, so the likes of Tulsa, Rice, SMU and Tulane will be the only ones eligible to play in the bowl games, NCAA or NIT tournaments. We will represent CUSA very, very well, thank you!!! :D
