Sorry for lack of specifics but according to 24/7 sports NIU had a decommit in football from the 2020 commits. Not positive but I think it was the receiver from the state of Michigan. We now have 4 commits instead of 5 according to that site.

Make that the receiver from Peoria-my mistake.
Recruiting is a dogfight. Iowa once again going after NIU commits....visiting him monday.
Bigger schools with more resources monitor who the "mid-majors" like NIU haul in, especially early commits, and especially by the successful programs like Northern, according to a "major" source/acquaintance. Saves time refining second looks, if they think a potential recruit might fill a need, and considering the zillion potential recruits out there to check out. Sounds unfair, but makes mid-majors sort of unwilling extensions of a major's recruiting operation. Their thinking goes something like "all's fair in love and war" ... and recruiting.
We all know it happens. The only positive is that it is early, and gives our coaching staff time to go after a replacement - next man up before the players get here.

yup, i think this is a positive from our recruiting efforts if the "quote on quote" "bigger schools" are going after our guys in April/May vs December. That just means we are competing head to head with Iowa right now rather than EMU/WMU etc...
This is exactly why it's way to early to get excited about potential signees.

He gets a offer from Iowa and drops us like a hot potato.
He says he is "not a camp guy" ???

I don't know. I would think every kid trying to make it at the next level would take every opportunity to work hard.

Maybe he can't afford to go to too many camps. It can get expensive.

Yeah. That’s a weird response. That’s almost like saying I’m not a work ethic guy.

Camps are money makers. If you want a player, you are ok if he does not camp with you. To increase revenue, they tell everyone to "camp" with them. Has nothing to do with his work ethic.
Did we actually think that Hammock would be immune to getting his recruits poached by Power-5 schools?

Yeah it would even happen in the golden age. I remember right after NIU clinched the Orange Bowl a top QB recruit from LWE decommitted for Northwestern.

I now-- that could be-- and it's valid. But you think he would have a different answer. if that is what the situation was. Maybe he would have said, "well, we'll see. I am not sure where I might go ... " etc. But not a definitive, "I'm not a camp guy." What does that even mean?
I wish him well wherever he may end up (unless we play them.) Only want people who want to be at NIU.

Outside of that one kid who left for Wisconsin was there ever anyone that ever decommited that actually did anything at their power 5 school?
Look if they don't contribute at Power 5, they will not have made a difference here. We're going toe to toe with Iowa, Utah, Nebraska and others. Hell we don't win and compete because of lesser talent.
