Since its the offseason figured this could go on the main board...

With the Bengals draft tonight and the Reds in full swing, I can't remember a time I have cared less about either franchise. Haven't watched a Reds game and not checking in on the draft. Not worth the time or energy to me.

The sports in this town suck, its just the truth. Thoughts?
I disagree. I think the Reds would have a winning record at Rumpke park.

Both franchise have been mediocre to bad for many years. Reds have had three winning seasons since Castellini took the reigns in 2006. They didn't go to the MLB playoffs from 1995-2010.

Bengals futility has been well documented.

Oh well, the Reds at least have bobblehead nights.
When I was a kid I couldn't get enough baseball in the Spring and Summer. Now it's just boring. And the perpetually bad to mediocre Reds don't help.

Ironically, I do enjoy watching UC baseball play and go to a few of their games a year.

I still look forward to the start of the NFL season but after a few weeks when the Bengals are out of it I quickly lose interest.

I was that kid with the radio in bed on every night listening to Marty and Joe, even the games out west. Still remember listening to the Arizona game the Reds won in like the 12th inning off an Eddie Taubensee homer probably about 2AM. That had to be like 98 or 99. Good times.
Disagree about the Reds. I just learned about a phenomenon known as the "woo" and it sounds like the funniest thing ever. As long as the "woo" continues, I think it will still be possible to actually have fun at a baseball game. 05-stirthepot

As far as the Bengals are concerned, I hope they get humiliated by the Browns, remain completely irrelevant until the stadium contract ends, and the county tells them to pound sand when they want a new taxpayer-funded stadium. I want that organization to move far, far away, leaving UC football as the only game in town. With no NFL competition, UC football can really take off (especially if we are back in a P5 conference by then). UC deserves to represent Cincinnati much more than the shoddy, heartless, faceless business entity known as the Bengals.
I agree with the thoughts on baseball. It's difficult for me to sit through a game. I live in a town now with wildly popular NBA and MLS teams. Every game for each is sold out, and they're especially popular with the younger set. I think a large part of that success is that the games always pretty much last the same amount of time - two hours for soccer, and 2.5 for the NBA - and each sport just seems more culturally relevant (even to this increasingly old fart).

A bit off topic, but I don't recall being in a town that erupted like Portland did on Tuesday night when Lillard hit a 37-foot walk off shot to win the series. I walked home from our neighborhood watering hole (I live in a pretty diverse neighborhood) and folks from all walks were out celebrating. Again, it's a sport that seems relevant to a broader swath of the population than baseball in particular.
I never cared much for baseball, but the incompetence of the Reds has made me even less interested in the sport than I otherwise would be. Used to watch every Bengals game but stopped caring for the last time after the last Pittsburgh playoff debacle. Having a new coach makes the Bengals slightly more interesting, but still doubt I'll watch more than a couple games this season. Now that I live in Columbus, I've started to enjoy hockey more and am looking forward to the Blue Jackets game 1 tonight. With my apathy towards the Reds and Bengals, the Blue Jackets are on their way to being my new favorite professional sports team.

THIS x1000, screw Mike Brown. He has brought nothing but sports misery and fiscal insolvency to the city of Cincinnati.

"I could've told you that Cincinnati sports sucks except for Xavier. Everybody knows that."
Dudes, what about the Cyclones? When I lived there as a student they were very popular and it was entertaining to say the least.

LMAO. I said this same thing a few weeks ago. I used to watch every Reds game. couldnt get enough. Now its just boring

But the bengals, meh. I grew up in cincinnati and dont think i actually watched a bengals game until MAYBE 7th grade. played travel hockey and soccer so my weekends were booked. Didnt care for them until my freshmen year at Ohio University where people will ask where you are from and then say...GO BROWNIES or GO STEELERS. so that annoyed me into becoming a bengals fan, which then stopped after I graduated.

I'm a big fan of the woo. I think it's hilarious that so called baseball purists go nuts when bored fans start " the woo".
Seems like every time I travel I run into someone who wants to talk Reds baseball. "Oh, you're from Cincinnati? Big Reds fan?". I'd like to say yes, but MLB has too many games. There is absolutely no drama at the games. There's nothing on the line. And the games take so long my kids would never make it through a game. You look at the players faces and they don't seem to care. They're just going through the motions. So, why should I care?
It ain't always easy but I'm still a fan of both. The Reds have dug themselves a hole, but I think they'll dig themselves out of it and actually have a shot at the playoffs if they stay healthy (getting Wood on the mound healthy would be a big help as would a productive Scooter). Hopefully the fans will respond if they do get it going.

Not feeling good about the Bengals prospects for next year, but we'll see what the new coaching staff can do. And hey if we're bad enough, I'll start watching Alabama to see what we can win (Tua!) by losing a bunch.

I'm getting into FCC as well. I understand the basics well enough from my youth, but I'm still learning the intricacies as well as the players to be frank.

I've enjoyed Cyclones games in the past and hopefully will again in the future (none this year), but it's hard to get fired up about minor league hockey even if the team is pretty good as the Cyclones are now.

And of course I"m looking forward to the next college football and basketball seasons especially with regard to UC.

My feelings exactly. A 31-year-old lifelong tri-state resident, and I'm finally over everything but the Bearcats.

IMO I'd be more invested in the Cylcones if it were a true farm system and the players had an actual shot at playing in the pros.. love hockey though and have followed the Blue Jackets since their inception.

Love the Reds no matter how bad they are.. there's just something about going to the ballpark.
I want to love baseball like I did as a kid, but I just don't anymore.

Screw the Bengals, and the whole NFL. It's a greedy soulless corporation that has managed to con local governments into giving them billions of $$$ from some of the poorest people in America (they're nearly all funded with a flat tax on inner city neighborhoods).

And somehow they manage to negotiate and function as a monopoly, yet they skirt monopoly laws by simultaneously claiming 32 separate competing entities that they have no control over (at least, when it suits them).
There are a lot of Bearcat fans who aren't fans of the professional teams in Cincinnati.

Crap about these professional teams should always be relegated to the OT forum no matter the season.

Also, I still suggest that their be a Jarr's Random Thoughts thread so that he stops making new posts for every wild idea.

Sounds like some people simply dont like baseball or the NFL, so their interest wouldn't be there regardless.

I would describe my interest as apathy, due to continued mediocrity with no sign of progress. I am still very much a Bengals and Reds fan, just not interested in watching a loser.

UC sports has thanksfully been competetive, but unfortunately has not performed on the big stage which in some ways can even be worse. But with Fickell and JB, I have renewed hope.
