Holy balls. In these short clips:

- The NSA/CIA spy on Congress, the judicial branch, and domestic political groups, huge dragnets of "accidental" domestic surveillance which are then retroactively searchable, and even each other.
- FISA Courts have become a glorified rubber stamp.
- Trump was talked out of releasing the FISA documents that led to his investigation by the British and Israeli intelligence agencies among others (Why would they want to stop that? Probably because they're implicated, and the public backlash would be severe.)

"Have become" implies that there was a time when they weren't. There never was such a time. They have always been glorified rubber stamps.

One thing that IMO would fix at least some of the bigger problems would be to include an ad litem to represent the interests of the potential target as part of the process. Such an ad litem would have the right and obligation to conduct cross-examination and to ask the questions that should have asked about the Steele dossier, for example. There would have to be adequate safeguards to ensure that the ad litem retains sufficient independence instead of becoming just another rubber stamp.

There has been at least one bill introduced that would have provided that and other reforms. Interestingly, it was sponsored by--guess who--Rep. Adam Schiff, who would probably go to the mat today to defend the process followed in the Carter Page FISA warrant. Funny how views change to meet the moment.

If true, that is a huge, HUGE mistake by Trump that will come back to bite him, and bite hard.
