According to GRRM the ending is very close to what he has planned. He said the real differences will be in the secondary characters.

I usually hate "set-up" episodes, but this one was really good. If I remember correctly episode 2 will be the longest battle scenes ever filmed. It should be epic.

The amount of character deaths is said to be extremely high.

Hope it isn't a Sopranos ending (although I recently heard an interpretation that completely changed my mind on it for the better)...

Yup. It was a good setup episode. Next week appears to be the Battle of Winterfell. I'd imagine that we are going to some big characters die next week since everyone but Cersei, the Greyjoys(minus Theon), the Mountain, and Cyburn are in Winterfell or on their way there.

My guess is that Theon dies. His redemption arc is almost over...he saved Sansa, he saved Yara, and now he will fight and die with his real family, the Starks.

Also, I'd guess that Edd and Baric are going to die and maybe Greyworm. On top of that I bet we see one major character die......but I have no idea who that will be.
