WOAH. Not getting super excited yet, but dude has 15k followers
Be still my beating heart.
Wowza. Guess I will be refreshing Twitter for a while.

If Murph goes, and we save the majority of his recruiting class/holdovers, it’s a win-win in my book.
We’d probably lose most of our recent commits.

Whatever.

I’ll sacrifice the short-term future to get someone legit in here now.
Mm wonder if we name an internal interim for one season? This rumor happening close to signing day is not .good. I feel Murphy wants an extension and is using this recruiting class as a hostage. The AD should have canned him after Ball St. Loyalty has never been a word I associated with Murphy. He better do some damage control on his status or resign now.
So if Murphy leaves a year only does he owe any buy out money to EMU?

Loyalty goes both ways. There has never been much loyalty shown to Murphy by EMU or the EMU fandom.

That said, if he leaves, our program is in a deep hurt as the program goes into turmoil without much talent for 2019/20. Who knows what happens to the existing players and recruits.

We'll all be watching the EMU WBB team.

I'd prefer he come back for 2019/20 and then if things don't work out, then he leaves without causing any disruption.
Would love to see this happen. Murphy knows he's not welcomed here. First chance he gets he's gone.

This sounds like a 'conspiracy theory' to me. Why do I say that? After all didn't Cronin just get the UCLA job? (someone, Jerry Weaver, completely missed my point in another thread about coaching changes. He thought I meant that Murphy could get a promotion. All I meant is that when the deck is shuffled new openings are there at various levels. Could be asst coach at a big school or even move down and be HC at a smaller school.).

Could all of this have sprung up at the Final Four/coaches convention?

He knows his status at EMU is iffy and maybe trying to be 'one step ahead of the game.' Leaving now may not be a bad professional move.

So. Cal and UCLA would be 03-cloud9 03-cloud9 Every March I go out to So. Cal and it is beautiful while it is freezing in MI, Syracuse, etc.

I'm sure the contract has changed since this thing happened but it says a year of salary or where they are at in the pay period.

I might add if he is an ass't coach at a high major school it would have big pluses if that coach wants to use the zone more. Murphy is one of the experts on it.
Murphy has experience as a good recruiter, knows the system, and has worked for a big program in the past. Murph has probably maxxed out here at EMU in regards to what he can achieve. Southern California, im told, is beautful. I wouldnt hold it against him if he took it.
Good points, everyone. The truth is, Murphy will probably make similar pay as an assistant at a major as he does a head coach at a mid major. And probably much better perks at the major. The reason to be head coach at a mid-major is either to use it as a means to show your credentials as a head coach for the next step or you have such a personality that you have to be the one in charge. Murphy made a nice run at it, but he never built a “successful” program and probably never will- so the next step is rpbablt not coming. To the contrary, he is on the hot seat so likely will be looking for an assistant job in the near future. Why not take it now when an ideal opportunity presents itself.

Makes total sense to me. And I am a little excited for the next stage of EMU basketball. Though, we may regret getting what we wished for. Murphy’s retooled line up with his system would have had EMU winning some losing some once again. Looking at a dismal year now.

I say ask Braun for a favor to coach the team for a year until a replacement can be found. Maybe that taste/test will bring him out of retirement.

You mean like when Murphy wanted to leave after his first year for Orlando to be a scout? Alot of us got turned off by that.
Again, this is just a rumor. May be true, or may not be true. We'll see.

But I think the fact that NONE of us being shocked by this potential move says quite a bit.

So when are the team tryouts? Walk on city.

So. I believe there was a connection between Murphy and Orlando and they reached out to him, not the other way around.

Like guys, that was many moons ago. I'm glad he stayed and it took me 15 minutes to forget it.

I just don't try to dwell in negativity. If others want to dwell on it, it is their choice.

There will be turmoil whenever the change occurs. Might as well get it over with sooner than later. Like I've said before, I'd rather see rebuilding done with a new coach rather than a guy in his last year. When a new coach comes in it will breath new life into our suffocating program. Might even sell more tickets.

If Murphy does go to UCLA I wonder what it means for his family. Will they all move to LA?

If anyone knows or checked, Rob and I 'follow each other' on Twitter.

Every March I go out to San Clemente during the MAC tourney and send him DM of San Clemente or Laguna Beach.

If we play two games out there in Nov or Dec I just might go out again for a week and watch a couple games (We owe UC-Irvine a game. UC-Irvine is about 20 miles from San Clemente).

He could go to UCLA and bring the zone defense with him. Cronin is the HC but Murphy took introduce the zone to their defensive sets.
