Some of my friends are so enamored with Tiger. I just don't get it. He was flat out AWESOME for a 10-15 year stretch. But for the last 10 years, he hasn't even been average. Asked yesterday who was their pick "I never like to bet against Tiger but...." WHAT? If you bet against TIger the last 10 years you'd have won 99% of the time!

Yeah, I don't get that either.

Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE it if he did win. It'd be great for golf and super fun to watch. However, you're right... the last 10+ years it's been garbage for him and no way I'd bet ON him.

Yeah, like I said, I will be pumped if he wins as it's good for golf and makes it more fun to watch. I still don't think he gets it done today. He played a round yesterday about as good as he's gonna play. He'll have to put big time pressure on Molinari early to have a chance. Molinari is playing super solid golf. One bogey through three rounds I think, right? Will be interesting what these guys do with the short rest from yesterday's round.

He hasn't been garbage for 10+ years. Here are his worlds rankings after the last 10 years:

2009: 1
2010: 2
2011: 23
2012: 3
2013: 1
2014: 32
2015: 416
2016: 652
2017: 656
2018: 13

Last year he moved up from 544th to re-enter the top 100 in 88th in 4 tournaments. Later he moved from 67th to 26th in 3 tournaments, the last of which was finishing second at the PGA Championship. Winning the TOUR Championship moved him up from 21st to 13th.

I like former Number 1 Ernie Els. He ended 2013 in 27th, and he ended 2017 in 592nd. Under 9 months ago, he was 793rd. Now he's improved to 319th.
Welp.

That was AMAZING.

Best Masters finish in how long now?

Tiger is back and golf is a lot more fun to watch because of it.

H hadn't won a major in 11 years. It's really not debatable he wasn't the same Tiger the last 10 years.

Evan likes numbers too much, and I tend to exaggerate with my adjectives. "Garbage" for that many years was a bit of that exaggeration I suppose. However, by Tiger's own admission, his health became so bad during that stretch that he thought his playing career was over. Like Hoops said, He hadn't won a major in ELEVEN years. Personal and physical ails took their toll until this past Sunday.

It's great that he's back, but don't rely so much on "numbers" to argue a point that nobody agrees with. He wasn't the same Tiger for the past 11 years. He was a shell of what was, and that's what made his win on Sunday so special. It was like watching him play 15-20 years ago. Golf ratings are about to go through the roof now that he's back competing in top form.

Right! Sometimes numbers don't tell the whole story, here, is one of those times!
