Wonder why they don't play in the Alamodome. How cool would that be?

my first, second and 3rd guess would be $$$$$
There is a minor league park there in San Antonio that the AAA Milwaukee Brewers affiliate plays in. I'm not sure how much they use it but their media guide states that UTSA uses it a few times periodically.

Seems like they could use it a couple, three times a year for big games. I looked up the configuration when the Rangers played Spring Training games. It was 285 down the line in right with a 16 foot wall. Everywhere else was normal.
UTSA has played some bigger games at the minor league park. Think they had Texas Tech there last year for a weekend series and maybe have played A&M there for midweek. TAMU-CC does the same thing with the minor league park down there.
USM enters this weekend tied with UC Irvine on a nation leading 8 game win streak

UTSA comes into the series with an 11-14 (3-3 CUSA) record with their most recent game the 12-11 12 inning home loss to Mizzou on Tuesday in which UTSA blew a 3 run 9th inning lead. In CUSA play they won 2/3 at Rice last weekend after losing 2/3 at home to MTSU the weekend before. They are 7-9 at home. Their best win of the season was a 10-7 win at #23 Texas. They also played, and got swept, at #12 Auburn so they've played several top level teams. They have played 10 games against current top 100 RPI teams. And like just about everyone else they've got their shares of WTH losses such as 2 home losses to RPI #213 MTSU and a home loss to #228 Dartmouth.

stat comparisons:
USM 16-6 (22 games) vs UTSA 11-14 (25 games)
batting:
avg: .282 to .279
runs: 140 to 149
HR: 17 to 9
K/BB: 187/126 to 165/99
SB: 21 of 28 to 35 of 47
Batting wise we are pretty similar with the exceptions we have a little more power while they have a little more speed. Also, a no surprise, we strike out more but we also work the count more to get more base on balls. They only have 2 regulars with more than 1 HR and both of those have 2 each.

pitching:
ERA: 2.77 to 4.96
runs: 79 to 147
avg: .235 to .255
SB allowed: 22 of 28 to 25 of 31
K/BB: 182/66 to 201/101
errors: 33 to 31
Pitching wise we are more dominant in just about every phase except we are pretty equal in the K dept per game average. Their Friday/Saturday guys have respectable ERAs but the bullpen is where they lag as they have 7 bullpen guys with 5+ appearances and the best ERA of that relief group is 5.18
You never know with baseball, and you'd think I would have learned over the years not to do this (especially when it comes to Southern Miss), but I believe this series will go like the previous two.
Interesting tidbits from USM's game notes:
https://southernmiss.com/documents/2019/...5_UTSA.pdf

- The Golden Eagles have not finished lower than tied for third place in the league standings since Scott Berry took over in 2010, including first three times, second on two occasions and third four times.
- Southern Miss is the first team to win at least 20 league games in three-straight seasons since Rice did it (2006-08).
- The 48 C-USA wins over the last two seasons are the most by any program over a two-year span in the history of the league.
- Offensively, the Golden Eagles have led the league in batting average, hits, runs, RBI, total bases, walks, on-base percentage and slugging, while defensively they have led the league in striking out batters and fielding assists in each of the last two seasons.
- The Golden Eagles are the fourth different school – the others were Tulane (97-98), Houston (99-00) and Rice (06-08, 10-15) – to win the league regular-season crown in consecutive seasons.

If they only average 300 fans per game, even if all of them are paying customers, the gate receipts wouldnt be enough to pay the electricity bill.

Depends on who they are playing. More people would show up if they were playing in the Alamodome selling beer etc.

If they were playing a "P5" school from Texas (Texas, Texas A&M, TCU, Baylor) maybe probably but not anyone else. Tuesday night vs Missouri the attendance was 391. Their CUSA opener vs MTSU two weeks ago had less than 300 (285)
And just a heads up for those who pay for the CUSA.tv subscription....there is no video for Saturday's game due to the UTSA home softball game. Similar to what happened at FAU last year, when some CUSA teams have home baseball and softball on the same weekend the video feed does the Friday/Sunday baseball games and the softball DH on Saturdays.
Game just underway

Monte
Guidry
Slater
Hoard
Wallner
Blaylock
Bowden
Lynch
McGillis

Powell

Donaldson must be hurting pretty bad from the foul ball off the foot last weekend....or did I miss something else with him
And per my “scouting report” about our batters striking out more...right on que we go down with 3 strikeouts to start the game
At least we’ve only struck out twice more but we’re trailing 4-1 in 5th. Only hit/run was via a Bowen homer.
And of course, pitching fails us again. I knew my “We should sweep this like the others” statement would come back to bite me.
back to reality. 1 hit against a complete goob of a pitcher. Dude can't stop smiling on the mound.
do we really have nobody better than mcgillis and cooper to play short? they both are guaranteed outs at the plate.
