The NCAA basketball tourney should be double elimination. You wouldn't do that with 64 teams but I wish the tourney would reseed the teams once they got to the sweet 16 and make it double elimination from that point on out.
Basketball is easy to turn around and play games. If we need to do away with conference tournaments and start the tourney that week.

No. Single elimination is best for basketball. For baseball I think it makes total sense.

The first round should be group play at campus sites. Each group has 4 teams and you play round robin. The top 2 qualify for the single elimination rounds.
I would start with 64 teams though. The first single elimination round would have 32 and from there we play it like normal.
I do think the single elimination aspect is a part of what makes the tournament special, but I think group play is not necessarily a bad idea. It would add more games without adding more teams.
This system would also reward top seeds with home court advantage for their group play.

I would be ok with that too, I just thought they may feel like it was too many games if it began with the round of 64. I wouldn't mind the home courts also it would reward the regular season and its annoying watching games at sites that are not heavily attended.
The tournament exists to crown a tournament winner. Sometimes that team is the best team in the country but often they aren’t.
The tournament also exists to create TV drama in a sport where almost anyone can upset someone else in any given night
A single elimination tournament does just that by giving unlikely teams a path to go far deeper in the tournament based on good fortune than pure skill alone would allow.
It stinks for crowning the best team but is gold for ratings and gambling
