or you can name as many as you’d like if there are more than the top 5.

My top 5 ranking would be:

1) Brett Favre
2) Reggie Collier
3) Austin Davis
4) Nick Mullins
5) Lee Roberts

I know, it’s a hard toss up between Brett and Reggie as #1....and for me it’s also a toss up for Austin and Nick at #3. (Jeff Kelly would have probably been my #6. Alerick Young and Robert Ducksworth were good too).

Would love to hear each of your versions of how you all would rank any QB that played for USM.
1.Reggie Collier
2.Brett Favre
3.Austin Davis
4.Nick Mullens

Depends on criteria.

If it is based on college career (which I think it should be):
1. Collier
2. Favre
3. Davis
4. Roberts
5. Kelly
6. Mullens

(I think you could rank 4-6 in any way).

Haven’t been around long enough to be able to rank beyond that. I remember learning some really colorful language from my dad while Heath Graham was QB, though.

Comparing QBs from different eras is like comparing apples and oranges—especially with spread QBs.

Collier was a much better college QB than Favre despite playing in a horribly conservative O than shackled him. Favre was a much better NFL QB. Davis and Mullins had the benefit of being in offenses that allowed them to grow and show their skills. It blows my mind to think what Favre and especially Collier would have done with the O that Mullins and Davis played under.
Austin and Nick isn't a tossup. Austin won 12 games and a conference championship when the conference was respectable.
How about top 5 worst QB's:

1. Keep-ma-son's-name-oucha-mouf Alford
2. Todd Brickfoot
3. Sunshine Lloyd
4. Arsenio did-us-no Favor
5. Stephen Reaves

I don't know that any of them should be in the top 5 worst. Maybe Allan Bridgford.

But Austin had a better team around him and one head coach that was all about offense if I remember correctly.
1. Reggie
1a. Brett

pick your poison with the rest....
No love for Dustin Almond?

Yes, but Nick's coach was Todd Monken (offensive) and the competition was inferior.....

No.

Really, I did think about him.

He had a few great moments (first half of TCU). But he also had some spectacular trainwrecks (Nebraska ‘03 forever comes to mind). Talented kid. But he was a bit of a headcase (meltdown against Utah), and you never trusted him in a big moment.

His senior year, all in all, ended up being pretty good statistically, but I’m not sure I remember anything about that season.

In fairness, i think some of his struggles can be attributed to Bower. The vanilla, predictable offense during a time in which our running back quality dropped significantly (between the Nix and Fletcher eras) put him in bad situations.

I always wonder what he would have done in Fedora’s offense. I suspect a lot of school records would have had his name on them. Even if you gave him Fletcher for a couple years, we may remember him differently.

one could easily argue Jeff Bower....

Hmmmm.. Also a good point. To be honest, I would have thought Austin would have the most success at the next level. I guess we have to wait a few years to have that question answered.
Yeah, Dustin never had a running game behind him. The 2003 Nebraska game was his first start I believe, and he beat Nebraska in '04. You wonder how some of Bower's QBs would have worked under Fedora. I think well. Scary to think what Brett and Reggie would have done.

Nick had a better arm than Austin, just nowhere near as mobile. Kelly was better than Roberts. Almond might have been a better athlete than any, except Brett and Reggie.
Nick looked better last year than Austin did at any point in his NFL career. Just being honest.
Tommy Waters..... Why are you guys even debating
