The episode which was Buster Broncos premiere turned out to be a lot more than just buster. A very good promotion for WMU. Pretty much from start to finish; it was a Bronco extravaganza. Very cool.
Great Promotion for WMU

Also, acknowledgement of the NCAA Sportsmanship Award was a big plus !

Lets schedule USC again !
(I think they had something to do with this.)

Go Broncos ! 04-cheers
Holy **** was not expecting 30 minutes of Western Michigan University product placement!

Also nice 'real' advertisement during a commercial break. Employment stats, top national university, etc. Not just your typical college ad but gave reasons why to choose WMU. Probably the new marketing person we hired recently?

Any Bronco fan should check it out. More than just a Buster Bronco cameo but a true WMU moment to shine.

Also, I'm not convinced USC played a role, as the characters are from Michigan and so the writers probably have some ties/interest, but if so, I may have to start pulling for USC!!!

Well done!
All I saw were the clips in the MLive article. It's cool that there was so much WMU content but holy hell did that show look unfunny.
That was nuts! I had no idea it was gonna be such a WMU promo! We were all just crackin’ up.
It's not a very funny show (pretty predictable-formulaic) but it was very cool hearing-seeing all the WMU references-gear on national, prime time TV.
Prime time exposure is understandably good, but I'd rather WMU be on national TV for things other than getting laughed at.

I dont think WMU was getting laughed "at". The story line was the character being a WMU grad who was a very proud alum, and his neighbor who generally thinks of him as a doofus, but when he sat among all the WMU fans the main character learned that the WMU neighbor was actually a very humble accomplished person, who was a distinguished soldier, among other things.

The show is a bit cheezy, and not terribly funny, but I believe WMU was represented quite well. Heck, they even had our hoops team playing in the elite 8.

BYW, I own most of the WMU t-shirts people were wearing on the show. LOL.
Yup, like I said in the other thread, it was like a half-hour WMU Informercial. Blew away the 1995(?) Home Improvement episode with the Diether Haenicke cameo.

Content itself was generic, canned laugh-track sitcom. Very vanilla and bland, little wit. But still pleasantly surprised they went all out on the WMU promotion. Even inside that house there were Bronco flags and pennants everywhere.

Looked hard to see if someone accidentally slipped in an RTB shirt at the basketball crowd scene, but no, they avoided any legal wranglings. 03-lol

I agree with brovol, didn't think we were being "laughed at." In fact the WMU alum seemed to be portrayed as the wise, rational one throughout the loose "plot."

They did do their homework, that's for sure.

Someone else mentioned it might've been 'thank you' for us letting their blind kicker boot the PAT. Whether it was that or someone else in that industry pulling strings, really interesting how much WMU was weaved into that story.

Quite the opposite. I think USC fans weren't liking it, and were more puzzled than anything. Probably figured that us giving the blind guy the kick had something to do with it.

The USC guys were cheering for Western in the WMU crowd, and at the end, wanting the Cool Guy from WMU to sign his now WMU shirt! And they went to USC.

I say we schedule USC again -- but this time they come to Kzoo, with Lester improving our team. :)

About $1.5-2m gets USC to Kazoo. Never happen. They could schedule another G5 team in LA and make more money off the revenue base in place for their home games.
I don't think todd was being serious.

The USC trip was fun. Wouldn't mind if the temperature was a few degrees cooler, but L.A. was certainly a good Bronco road trip destination. And certainly for the team as well, which included a party at Gores' mansion. Whole weekend had a bowl feel to it.
WMU Basketball in the Sweet 16. If that’s not pure comedy, I don’t know what is!

No more unlikely than USC being there.
It got me thinking about our 1998 team. We went 20-7, lost in the first round of the MAC tourney, and got an at-large. No way that'd happen nowadays, even with a win over scUM on the resume.

But I still think we could've been Sweet Sixteen material. Too bad we faced Stanford in the second round, who ultimately rolled to the Final 4 before losing by one point to champion Kentucky.
In regards to the comedy of the show, it was nice to not have a TV show who's humor relies on political jokes.
I'm furious that the WMU characters never mentioned Western beating USC in '04.
Perhaps,
Cedric, and the rest of the cast could visit Kalamazoo and WMU, and film a future episode ? 02-13-banana
