At least in Sampson’s case, he seems to be doing it clean now. Pearl is probably dirty but his personality is great for the game. The image of him in bodypaint in the student section at one of Pat Summit’s game defines 2000s CBB for me.
Also remember the one time we had #1 Memphis vs #2 Tennessee match in February? Crazy that an SEC & CUSA team scheduled a game for late February and it turned out to be 1vs2.

While Pearl and Sampson are the only show-cause wrong-doers in the Sweet 16, other examples of coaches/programs involved in misconduct are very present as well. LSU (w/ Will Wade), UNC (major academic misconduct allegations) and John Calipari (Camby/Rose) all have their prior incidents well documented. Rick Barnes saw allegations of academic misconduct while at Texas, and Buzz Williams was even suspended a game for providing misleading information about impermissible benefits while at Marquette.
It is wild to see UNC, Auburn, Houston and Kentucky all in the same bracket, however.
If Kansas had made it, it may have been the only regional in which every team had made no less than 5 Final Fours and 2 national title games.
