Absolute must win scenario today.

Kravetz is starting so I guess they just flipped his and Jackson P's starts this weekend.

A lot of changes to the Rice line-up, including most noticeably, Trei Cruz is sitting. Comeaux is at short. The outfield is Beaulaurier, Cox and Duluc.
Rice scores 3 in 3rd to take a 3-1 lead
UTSA ties it up in the 4th. Both teams now in the pen. 3-3 in the 5th.
Rice takes 4-3 lead in 5th. Edwards has two of Rice's three hits (and three RBI). Now in the 6th - Jefferies trying to hold the lead.
Now 6-3 Owls in B7.
Now 8-3 Owls. Runners on the corners, 2 outs. Walk loads them up.
Wow, we actually got some clutch, 2-outs singles in the 7th-- and from Duluc and Beaulaurier of all people!-- to up our lead to 7-3. We had the bases loaded with one out and failed to score in the 6th (though Dunlap hit a deep fly for the 3rd out). Comeaux makes it 3 consecutive 2-out singles, and the lead is now 8-3.
Jefferies still in.
With 2 outs in the 8th. UTSA trying to hit for cycle with single, double, triple. Now 8-5.

Gayle in to pitch for Jefferies.

Infield single makes it 8-6.
Jefferies hit the wall in his 4th inning of work. After getting two quick out-- single, double, triple...and the score in 8-5, with a runner still on 3B and Gayle now in.
Gayle continuing the implosion.

Now 8-6 with 2 on, 2 out.
Anybody notice how weird it is to have a baseball game in the 8th inning and we've just reached double digits in posts? In the old days, we would get there in pages.

??? Infield single, HBP, Fielder’s choice to end the inning is not much of an implosion.

I mean, could’ve done without the infield single and the HBP...

I remember when Lemond (Or Otto even) would just shut the door.

How our standards have fallen..
In all my years following baseball at all levels I have never seen a team strike out looking anywhere near as frequently as this Rice team, and in most cases on fastballs down the middle.
Three pitch strikeout of their No. 2 hitter. That's better.
E6. That's not better.
And then a 4 pitch walk. Wow.

Then a 4-pitch walk to put the tying runs on base. Ugh.
A clutch K. Can we get the third out?
Gayle goes from 0-2 to 3-2 before getting a swinging strikeout for the 2nd out. Still two runners on base.
