Anybody see the last few minutes of the Auburn/New Mexico State game? Auburn tried hard to give it away by missing free throws but New Mex St refused to take it. They had a chance to win it with three FTs with 1.7 seconds left, or tie it if they made two, but they made only one. They also missed a wide open trey at the buzzer. Even more strange, they could have tied it with an open lane for a layup but the driver passed it out for a three (he's the one who got fouled).
Not a good half for NE. Kansas defense is really taking them out of their game. Pusica is 1-8.

Kansas 37-25.
Just saw Matt Brady on the bench of the Maryland-Belmont game. Wonder if he's available...
Northeastern has not looked good today unfortunately. Pusica is having a stinker
A lot of time left and a lot of credit to Kansas and Bill Self, but just a dismal performance from Northeastern and Bill Coen. Have no clue who this Northeastern team is. Certainly doing the CAA no favors.
Northeastern doing their best to make sure the CAA remains a one bid league for the next decade. This is why Huge fired Shaver. All the good teams left the conference, and he still couldn’t win a championship in it.
NE missed at least 8 lay ups in the first half and several more so far in the second half.

This game highlights another point about the NCAA being a holy grail. It is not just making it that counts -- you also need to win in it. That is hard to do, and even harder for inexperienced teams that haven't done it before. New Mexico State and Belmont both lost games that they could have won (maybe should have won). NE has been there before and are still looking lost and overmatched.

So, Huge's plan is to get us there on such a regular basis that we actually start winning games and funding the athletic department budget? That will not happen in my lifetime. If it does, I doubt that I would even recognize the school.
You don’t have to win. You just have to not get humiliated and lose by thirty!
That is a program damaging performance for Northeastern (much less the CAA.)

God help how bad the conference will be next year.
Man, maybe Northeastern should have just forfeited their bid to Hofstra... Terrible showing from them
It would be interesting to check the worst beat down by a CAA Champ in the tourney. I remember Duke beating UR in round 1 something like 80-40 years ago, though that didn't put any clamps on URs program development or the CAA.

Bad game for NE though I'm sure they will still be viable again next year.
Meanwhile, Murray State is making the OVC look like the ACC.

Marquette couldn't stop Murray State's PG is they had a tuna net. Lots of sprained ankles out there.

Now, COME ONE NEVADA!!!

This is too funny.

You and I just see things differently.

My take is ... huff and puff to get to the Dance, cut sports to fund the rise, fire coaches who can’t get you there ... all for what .... to play Kansas and lose by 35 in the first round.

What are we doing?
NE loss just shows you what getting to the dance means. Our AD assumes a George Mason run, but reality is that CAA gets trounced sometimes. Being an asterisk sucks.
Gonzaga 53 FDU 17 at halftime.
Man, Wofford has to have the best pure shooters in college bball. If they get an open look, they don't miss ever it seems like
Wofford and Seton Hall, just wow...has this been fun to watch.
From a fan’s perspective, It’s easy to say the NCAA isn’t the holy grail (especially what’s transpired lately). BUT, to every single D1 basketball player the NCAA is the holy grail!!! At the mid-major level, to an athletes, it means you’ve likely win your conference regular season title, most certainly won your conference tournament, and had an awesome experience playing in the Big Dance that will provide lifelong memories. Sure, a W&M degree is certainly prestigious. But give a player a recruiting pitch of “you’ll get a top notch degree, and will be competitive every year in conference but may not make the dance” and you won’t land one player! They’ll go to where they think they can win. Guaranty Tony and staff have said this to every recruit “you can be part of history, helping W&M make our first ever NCAA tournament”.

Think about it, the fact we haven’t made the dance certainly was used as a recruiting tool. Especially since Northwestern broke through for the first time a couple years ago and made a nice run almost knocking off Gonzaga! Recruits pay attention to stuff like that a heck of a lot more than we’re giving them credit.

For the record, I think Tony should have been able to lead the team next year, but talking that the dance isn’t the main target for any player is foolish! There’s a hell of a lot of other great colileges acadenically that provide great degrees and win! To think winning isn’t #1 for these players is foolish!
