Meanwhile, Marshall athletics (along with ODU and USM) is making a big step-up from C-USA to the Sun Belt, and I’m very pleased to see that happening.

The 4 programs (5, if you count DBU) who are joining C-USA? A step-up for all. The 6 who are joining AAC? Huge improvement. The 3 joining Big XII? No brainer. Texas and Oklahoma? Even more money to play with.

The losers are the ones who play in a conference that lost football members but didn’t make a move themselves: the 8 left-behind members of the Big XII, the 8 left-behind members of the AAC, and the 5 left-behind members of C-USA. And even those 5 in C-USA are actually in a better situation for men’s hoops. I don’t have any problem admitting that.

I’ll put UT-Arlington and UA-Little Rock in a separate “wait and see” category. But just offhand, I think Little Rock is going to be very happy with how things turn out. UTA is dicier.

but is USM better or just getting wins against really bad teams. Although the Tulane win was impressive and they played Liberty tough. But pulling out A W in the win column is not hard against ark state ULM and Texas State

The conference change and competition has been helpful for their record. It is not surprising. Plus it isnt a good year for G5 football, no standout teams just a lot of parity. Parity plays well in the NFL but not G5 we need a team to standout.

Both. The team is noticeably better when it comes to athleticism and depth. The transformation of the front 6 on the defensive side of the ball has been remarkable (especially considering season ending injuries to the 2 returning starters at LB). The DL now rotates 10 players and is really good. Out of 7 games, 4 of the opponent's starting QB was not physically able to start the next game.

The struggle is still on the offensive side of the ball. The OL is average at best and losing the QB1 again and going with a true freshman behind center has made this side of the ball hard to watch at times, yet there are bursts when you see that there are some playmakers.

Since the offense is so bad, there are no easy FBS wins for this team, even when the defense completely dominates. The Golden Eagles have been minus two in turnover margin for each of the past 3 games (won 2 of those). Southern Miss has 5 games remaining, and I could see each game going either way.
