The Warhawks are 7-12 on the season after getting swept at home by No. 16 Coastal Carolina in the first SBC series of the weekend, losing 13-3, 14-2 and 15-7.
Tuesday's game is the lone meeting of the season between the Warhawks and the Golden Eagles.

The two programs have not met since 2015, when the Warhawks lost a mid-week game in Hattiesburg, 9-3, on April 21.

ULM head coach Michael Federico is in his second season with the Warhawks. He led the team to an 11-win improvement in his first season, as the Warhawks posted a 23-31 record in 2018. He is 30-43 overall as the head coach at ULM.

Tuesday's game is a homecoming of sorts for Federico. He spent nine seasons as an assistant coach at Southern Miss prior to accepting the head coaching job at ULM. He also played for the Golden Eagles and earned two degrees from Southern Miss, one in 1997 and another in 1999.

Through Sunday's games, ULM ranks 11th in the Sun Belt Conference as a team in batting average at .246. ULM has 150 hits, 24 doubles, three triples and nine home runs with 100 runs scored. The Warhawks have also compiled 147 strikeouts to 94 walks. On the mound, ULM ranks last in the SBC in team ERA at 7.12. The Warhawks have given up 154 runs, 129 earned, on 186 hits with 171 strikeouts and 103 walks.

ULM is 0-4 in true road games this season, and 3-6 in games played away from Warhawk Field. ULM has lost all three of its mid-week road games, falling 15-0 at Northwestern State and losing 10-3 and 7-1 at Southeastern Louisiana.
Pitching matchup is

ULM LHP Cole Martin (Jr Juco transfer) vs USM RHP Gabe Shepard (true freshman)

ULM - Martin: 0-2, 7.82, 2 starts/3 relief app, 12.2 IP, 19 H, 11 ER, 13 K, 7 BB, .339 avg allowed, 4 HBP

USM - Shepard: 0-0, 6.75 ERA, 2 relief app, 1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 K, 1 BB, .333 avg allowed

USM - Shepard: 0-0, 2.73 ERA, 2 relief app, 1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 K, 1 BB, .333 avg allowed

That ERA for Shepard is incorrect based on giving up 1 ER in 1.1 IP.

That would put him giving up 3 ER every 4 innings and 6 ER every 8 innings, putting his ERA somewhere between 6.5 and 7.

Now corrected. I was looking at WHIP instead of ERA when I was typing. Thought it seemed low for the 1.1 inning and 1 ER. THanks
Lefty with a high ERA vs. a true freshman

this should be......interesting

Granted our pitcher has minimal USM game experience but considering both pitchers are allowing batting avg of .333 and .339 it sounds like it could be a slugfest. As I type that watch it be a 4-1 game

I have a feeling neither coaching staff is genuinely expecting either guy to make it through the batting order a second time.
Don't forget who ULM's coach is. I am sure he is fired up to be back in Hattie and play his old team.
Looks like our Freshman is throwing serious heat.
I went to live stats and it shows the stats from Sunday vs La Tech. With ULM logo on USM stats. We lost 5-1 per the live stats. Is it to much to ask to get the stats for today’s game? I guess that’s what you get when your TV contract nets you $100K per year.
Come on Wild, you’re being generous with that number.
ULM’s roster is like 90% JUCO. Damn, Fed.
Lynch is absolutely terrible. Now batting .193. Dude has proven he sucks. Time to bench him.

Lol. You realize we can’t bench everyone? Someone has to play third base.

Lynch is a true freshman. He definitely has not “proven he sucks” through 17 career games.

Sorry, but someone batting under .200 absolutely sucks.
