Not an easy matchup by no means, but I believe ODU has a good shot of the upset. Go Monarchs keep the streak
Let's ******* goooooooo!

We've played Purdue close before definitely a potential upset. 14 seed seems really low for us especially with our marquee wins this season.

Yeah but its not the same team. This one is better. We definitely were underseeded though

Monarchs deserved better than a 14 seed. But, the current version of CUSA just doesn't get the respect. Part of it is lack of success OOC, Part of it is how crappy the bottom half of the conference generally performs. Have we had anybody seed higher than 11/12?

What's bull**** is vcu got an 8 and they lost in their quarterfinals.

No not underseeded at all. Net ranking 90+, what marquee wins are you talking

You're one of our biggest fans on how much you post about ODU. You should know we beat VCU at home and Syracuse on the road!
Don't be the school that busts our first round streak.

I agree with your OOC point, but I don’t know about the second. We had 10 of 14 teams with winning records this year. Pretty sure it was something pretty similar last year. I’d put more weight on the OOC.
ODU won the regular season and the postseason, and also beat two 8 seeds in non-conference play (Syracuse on the road, and VCU). I think the biggest slap is that Saint Louis - a 6th place team in the A-10 and a team behind ODU in the Net rankings - is a 13 and ODU a 14. That's messed up.

That is messed up.

Only thing we can do is carry on the tradition 05-mafia
I think the streak continues, Purdue is very beatable and matching up with a non athletic Big Ten team is exactly what you want....

Seeding sucks but probably due to commitee members not watching Facebook watch or trying to find Bein to see our teams play. My guess last night was only game anyone saw CUSA play in for the major part. Belmont got in because they were on normal TV a lot..

Isn't St Louis heading to San Jose? I think they did us a solid by putting us in Hartford. And if the only way to do that was to slide us down a slot, so be it.

Great point. Norfolk to Hartford is a day trip (only 480 mile drive). Also flights don't look too terribly expensive.
I like this matchup but think ODU is under seeded too
You'd rather face a Purdue team which tied for the Big 10 title, over a Virginia Tech team that was 6th in the ACC and has been missing one of its best players (Justin Robinson) for awhile now (although he may try to play for the NCAA tournament)? That may have not been the match-ups either if you were a 13 and Saint Louis a 14. They could have easily switched up the other 3/14 and 4/13 games.

I'm going through the same type of arguments with some Rice fans on our women's team. They're trying to argue being a 10 or 11 seed is okay because it gives you a better path to get to the sweet 16, whereas an 8 or 9 seed is matched up with a 1 seed in the 2nd round. I think that's nuts. I want the easier opponent in the first game, and have no desire to look ahead to a 2nd round match-up.

Yeah but how many of those OOC wins were against less than Div. 1 opponents?

I mean, both teams are supposed to destroy us. I could be wrong but I think we can handle Purdue better. Doesn't mean I think we'll win
I would have rather had VT with Liberty, VCU, and Duke all in the top half of that bracket. Would have been a great opportunity to make some noise where all the recruits in our region are paying attention. Purdue is a nice opportunity, but winning that game won't do nearly as much for our brand as beating VT unless we win the next too.
