87-73 final
AZZ barely has a game thread. I guess they knew from the start.
BG had no answer for Harris.

BG played them even for 35 minutes---too bad the score does reflect how close the game actually was.

Here is the tally sheet for NCAA Trips for MAC Teams updated for this year:

Miami 17 trips
Ohio 13 trips

Ball St. 7 trips
Kent 6 trips

Akron 4 trips
Bowling Green 4 trips
Buffalo 4 trips
CMU 4 trips
EMU 4 trips
Toledo 4 trips
WMU 4 trips

NIU 3 trips

Despite not have been in 39 years, the Rockets are still in the majority group with 4 trips----but what I find amazing is that Buffalo has accomplished in the last 5 years what Toledo (and others in the group) have required their entire history to do ... and that with losing Hurley and star players after their first appearance. Oats is going to be hard for Buffalo to keep but if he does stick around UT may be looking at 50 year drought not a 40 year drought.

Some of those schools, like Eastern Michigan, were playing DII (or even NAIA) during part of their history. We'll see what happens with Buffalo after this senior class leaves.

They may lose Oats this year as well----I am sure that he will have other opportunities, however, the question is will they be the "right" opportunities. Of course when Hurley left 4 years ago and took one or two of Buffalo's top recruits to Arizona State with him and caused others such as Nate Navigato to decommit and sign elsewhere I thought that Buffalo's goose was cooked but after little more than a hiccup for one year they roared back with three straight MAC tourney titles.
Dynasty?
Even if they keep Oates I see next year as a down year. They lose nearly all their scoring and have no proven inside threat offensively or defensively. All of which means they’ll prolly run the MAC table. And I typed “probly” but apparently Spellcheck prefers a different intentional misspelling, hence “prolly”. I can’t even misspell right.

Watching Buffalo romp through the MAC tournament yet again, the thought came across to me how much Navigato would have even played had he stayed committed to Buffalo. At UT, he became the all-time leading 3-pt scorer and 2nd all-time in the MAC. Not thinking that happens as a Bull.

Hard to say. They lose a ton this year. The only major contributors back are Davonta Jordan and Jayvon Graves. On the other hand, next year Buffalo will have senior transfers from Middle Tennessee State and Houston, who both had to sit this year. They also have three JUCO transfers. This year's freshmen, Jeenathan Williams and Ronaldo Segu, were highly touted. They were both part of the regular rotation, but neither was a big contributor.

I think Buffalo will be more like a MAC team next year rather than like this year's top 20 version, but I'm guessing that they will still be at or near the top of the conference. Not sure what other teams will stand out.

Good question.

Buffalo's true freshman, Jeenathan Williams looked pretty dang good when I watched him in the quarterfinals. Explosive and can drive to the rim with force. I don't think Buffalo is going anywhere too far from where they've been at the past 5 years.
I am pretty sure Buffalo's coach just signed a 5 year contract extension, so he is not leaving for greener pastures.

He surely has a buyout clause that a Big 10 team could cover out of pocket change.
