Just coming out. Will be made official later this afternoon.

hallelujah hallelujah
Not surprised. He seemed to really underachieve with what looked like a decently talented roster this year.
A really nice guy who everyone hoped would succeed. The talent level was better than it performed and was never above .500 in any season at the helm. Not surprised but wasn't convinced that he would be terminated in light of last year's extension.
Hate to see this, Fox is one of the genuine good guys that you really hope would succeed, but, the bottom line is his teams underperform and he was given plenty of time to turn it around, it’s unfortunate, hope someday he gets another chance to be a HC.
Hey stAte fans, this is how it's done. You can like the person a coach is but still admit that they suck at their job and need to be replaces. No shame. Good luck App.
Fox was given a very fair shot. He just never could get App over the hump
Everyone is on point in their comments. Fox was a good dude who actually tried. He didn't quit trying to do the best he could. It didn't pan out. My connection is to the school first. His tenure needed to end for the betterment of the school. Wish him well, but it was 100% needed.
Jim inherited an almost impossible situation and he did manage to at least steady the ship. He corrected the academic issues from the nightmare brought on by Jason Capel and recruited what I believe to be great character kids. Still, W's & L's are what it's all about. His moodiness and lack of visibility in the community didn't help him either. Appreciate what he did for App and wish him the best. Given how of the football search evolved it's going to be interesting to see how this develops.

There is someone available who A: Brings a lot of experience at the DI level. B: Has been a successful DI head coach. C: Enjoys a great recruiting relationship with NC high school coaches. D: Has fairly local ties. E: We could get for the money we're paying. He's not a spring chicken by any means and it wouldn't be a long term (10 year) deal, but (imo) he's perfect for what we need right now and could set the table for someone down the road. I'll be interested to see if his name pops up.
Lutz?

I'm not sure if App has the money or even if there would be a desire to come back, but Matt McMahon should be the first call. Lutz is in my top 3.
Guys Matt is going to a P5 program after a sweet 16 run this year not a bottom quartile SBC program.
Oh no doubt.

Pat Kelsey would be a great hire, but I don't think we could afford him. He turned down UMass and they were offering up a decent salary. He makes 227k now I think.

Jay Joyner would be a more realistic hire. We could double his salary immediately.

Lutz. If Lutz would come it would be good for the program. We'd just have to put up with hearing about hiring a former UNCC coach.

Yep Lutz. Unless we find a way to come up with $500,000 a year Matt ain't coming back. Even then it wouldn't be a sure thing. Matt is a good friend and I'm extremely proud of what he's accomplished. Even after 5 years that wound is still pretty sensitive. It's a shame, because App could easily be where Murray is today.
$500k/yr salary would be nice, but probably not necessary to compete in this league. Look at TXST and GS.

GSU- Ron Hunter (~$600k, $550k base + $50k bonus)
UL- Bob Marlin (~$550k)
GS- Mark Byington ($250k base salary + ??? booster contribution)
ULM-Keith Richard (????)
Ark St- Mike Balado ($375k)
Little Rock- Darrell Walker ($250k)
Troy- Phil Cunningham (~$290k)
USA- Richie Riely ($332k)
UTA- Chris Ogden ($440k)
TXST- Danny Kaspar ($270k)
App- Jim Fox ($250k)
CCU- Cliff Ellis ($275k)
I have zero interest in Lutz, especially after he publicly said no five years ago. Plus, he's 65 and said last summer he's done with college coaching.

I at least want Gillin to call Matt McMahon and say "what would it take?" Even if it just thaws the ice for something down the line, Matt deserves the phone call.

Marvin Menzies, who was fired after only three years at UNLV, the last two winning seasons, would be a good candidate to look at.

If Texas fires Shaka, we might as well try. Doesn't hurt to try.

Sure, but ours has only been here 2 years and we don’t exactly have a reputation for firing people.

App has actual fans that care about basketball, so they can afford to make a change. If we dropped basketball tomorrow many in our fan base would not shed a tear.

He didn't actually say no. We didn't offer enough money to compete with what he was making as an assistant at State. He will "only" be 60 on April 1. If you are referencing a July 18, 2018 article in the Charlotte Observer he didn't say he was done with coaching, just that is was likely he "won't coach again".

“At this point in my life,” he said, “I don’t have to work. I would like to work but it’s going to be 100 percent on my terms — who I’m working for, as an assistant or a head coach. I’ve learned it’s all about who you’re working for. Having said that, it’s very likely I won’t coach again.

“I won’t have that many opportunities. I’m 60. It’s the way the game is now, with search firms, the way (colleges) hire (athletics directors) and the way ADs use search firms to hire coaches. They have a younger set and group and an old guy like me who isn’t into politics and never will be....I always said if I’m not good enough on my own, I’m not good enough, and so I know my chances are not very good (to coach again).

As for Matt he does deserve a call, but I can tell you that wound runs deep and he's got a great thing going at Murray.

It's not about the money. It's about Charlie Cobb passing over him after Buzz Peterson left to hire Jason Capel. Matt was Buzz's top assistant at the time while Capel was the 3rd assistant on the staff with less than a year of experience. Cobb said Capel's "life experiences" is why he got the job. Today Capel is nowhere to be found and Matt is a finalist for this year's Hugh Durham Award.
I'd rather have Rick Pitino than Bobby Lutz.
I'm telling you guys Jay Joyner is where to look for a young guy with Tennessee and NC recruiting experience. He might not stay here longer than 3-4 years but we'd be respectable again.
