After 20 years at the school and 0 NCAA Tournament trips, and mostly bottom of the league performances, we finally made a change.

School played up his amazing track record of keeping players out of trouble as an excuse to keep him.

Fairly critical hire coming up for Mohajir, who has been getting a ton of heat lately for botched head coaching hires, and lack of general improvement within the Athletic Department.
Mohajir's hires.

Football. Harsin (hired away and doing well at Boise State), Anderson going sideways but not a disaster
Men's hoops. McCasland hired away and doing well at North Texas. Balado, meh but had modest improvement
Golf. Hagen only has AState in the top 25
Bowling. Kostick still has AState among the nation's best
Soccer. Dooley has had more success than any coach in school history.
Tennis. Lange has tennis crawling out a pit.

That's his list of "botched" hires and people wonder why I rarely waste any time talking AState online? It's this sort of faux drama queen declaration that doesn't withstand scrutiny.
I'm somewhat surprised he was fired. I thought he did fairly well at AState, although the last three seasons have sucked.

He had the good fortune of signing the second best player in school history around the time Mohajir arrived and won the league and was runner up which got him extended to next month.

It’s been coming. He had 3 years with one of the best players in school history and still couldn’t get them to the tournament.

Once she left, this was always going to happen
Wouldn't surprise me if Matt Daniel doesn't show up at AState. I loved the guy in his 5 years at Marshall but he resigned year before last when his wife got a job back in Arkansas that they couldn't refuse.

Daniel gets mentioned a ton; he literally lives a few minutes down the road. The NEA locals will want him, but Mohajir is not known for bowing to local pressure.

My guess is he'll either make a run at a current P5 assistant, or go after a long term D2 coach. The other best guess I can offer is that considering all but one current head coach on the campus is male, we'll try to hire a Woman for this position.

Mississippi State has an assistant that's from Pine Bluff who coached some at the D2 level here. She'd be my top choice.

He would be crazy not to go after Daniel. He took Central Arkansas from DII to DI and won the Southland in 3 years. He also took over a Marshall program that hadn't had a winning season in 5 years and took them to 2 WBIs and a WNIT in 2 years.

I still talk to Matt, he wants to get back into coaching but it would have to be the right situation. AState would def be the right situation for him.
I think there is a near zero chance Daniel would be hired. AState has only one female head coach.

Exactly.

It amazes me that there are stAte fans who will argue that she was the best. I immediately discount anything else they have to say at that point.

She was really good, but not even close to Sonja's level of play.

I know Matt too and his wife. I think it was more of them wanting to be back closer to family with two young children. She had an opportunity that allowed it to happen. I've heard Matt wants to get back into coaching too, but I would be surprised if he ends up getting the job. I think he's a strong candidate, but think we may be hiring a female coach instead.

And Mohajir loses any chance he had to earn back some good Will from his growing group of detractors. Even our most ardent fans hate this hire

Luckily most people don’t care.

Why anyone would hate this hire is beyond me. He was 63-23 at Central Arkansas, 16-0 at home his last year there with wins over Indiana and Missouri. He trans. them from DII to DI and won the Southland in 3 years.

He was 71-85 at Marshall but the record is deceiving. Marshall's HC at the time Royce Chadwick had not had a winning season in 5 years and had mentally checked out 3 years prior to that. It took 2 years of recruiting and getting the roster cleaned up and his recruits in. The next 3 years he took Marshall to 2 WBIs and the WNIT.

Two of his recruits just finished their senior season, Shayna Gore was a Gatorade All-American coming out of HS and finished her career in 3rd in scoring in Marshall history with 2,089 points and #1 in assists with 801. Taylor Porter who we only had 3 years (Freshman year Murray State) finished 3 years 7th in scoring with 1,821 points.

The guy can flat out recruit and coach. I would have done almost anything if he was still in Huntington roaming the sidelines.

Our fans were locked in on a D2 coach. Anybody but her would have been received with displeasure.
Someone on our board said Molly Miller turned down an interview. Still time for our AD to go. We should be able to get someone to do what he has done for our athletic dept. a lot cheaper.

You have to understand our fan dynamic is very different. Much of our alum base is against ever hiring someone from Arkansas. Too many examples at the state level of that failing

You’ve sampled the entire alum base? Or are you basing that off of a few alums on Twitter and message boards?

If you did sample the entire alum base, kudos to you for devoting countless hours.

I would take Terry Mohajir in a split second for Missouri State.
