I'm not whining and crying or mad, just dumbfounded at how bad they are.

They have lost five games in a row for the first time since 2013. We all know it was a fluke that they beat State 1-0, so could easily be 6 in a row (7 if not for the Troy rain out). But then....look at the Purdue series. I thought Purdue was a pretty good team. Well, that's what I get for thinking. They are 1-9 and we were a few plays away from losing that series.

Worst fielding and hitting team in 30 years. If this keeps up, USM will have trouble winning a CUSA series this year and will prob have at least 30 losses.

It's been a disappointing start. Terrible? That's a bold statement. Got the bad out early. Clean it up and we can still make some noise. Not how you start...... You know the rest. We have a good team, might take some time to get it fixed but I won't give up just yet! Most of our losses were very close. Errors and ****** hitting cost us.
Hitting will not be as bad as 2014.

This team may not hit for average but has some guys who can hit for power and get on base.

Out of 300, that 2014 team ranked 263rd in average, 233rd in slugging, 242nd in on-base, and 292nd in stolen bases. And I believe that was with some improvement the last part of the season. They also ranked 251st in fielding.

losing games is a given....

'lose early, win late, get 'er straight' has always been my mantra (see my Blues)

however, I don't see future potential in this group...

our fielding isn't the 'Lester toss to first' poor, but it's not far from it....

to date, we aren't stringing hits together....I still contend Franklin should be the lead-off with Monte at the 2 spot...

we have decent pitching from what's been shown to this point....there isn't a Sandlin....however, Berry's done well to date with the 'hook'....

we'll see how she works out....right now, I see a tad > .500 at best....
Id like to see Franklin in the 1 spot, Mont in 2 spot as well. Don't see what we've got to lose at this point. May as well try it out. Get the fastest guy on early and let him cause problems. Steal second and there you go. Berry never tried it last year so he prob won't this year.

Not sure I'd put Fred in the leadoff spot.

He has an above average OBP but it's still only 6th on the team.

the 1 spot doesn't count....Fisher's only had 4 ABs

think about this in perspective.....

who's the fastest guy on the team....what happens when you get men on in scoring position as many times possible....that's who you want in the 1 spot....hell, it wouldn't bother me if he lead off with a bunt to hit....

Monte is the perfect 2, and 3, 4, and 5 are just fine....

he could potentially open up this lineup w/o having to sac bunt on WAY TOO MANY OCCASIONS....

I simply don't get it...his speed and OBP is a proven stat....what a waste...

Agree.

I see the leadoff man as, first and foremost, the guy that will get the most plate appearances on the team. Even with his speed, Franklin has never shown enough offensive value to be that guy. I don't see his OBP holding up (and, as you said, it isn't that great), he has zero pop, and any pressure his speed puts on infielders is neutralized by the fact that he K's a ton.

Franklin really only has value if there's no one on base. I'd put him 9th after two weaker hitters. He can basically play the role that people want him to play without getting the number of at-bats that a leadoff hitter gets.

Outside of that, I think Berry has our hitters in the right lineup spots. The problem is that none of them are hitting.

I wasn't including Fischer or Blaylock.

Even with those two out, he's still sixth on the team.

Montenegro .415
Wallner .405
Guidry .400
Slater .395
Hoard .357
Franklin . 269

Even if you take out Hoard (only 14 ABs) Franklin is still .126 behind the 4th highest OBP.

I wasn't counting Hoard or Blaylock either....

also you plugged in his slugging%....I'm saying he gets on base 3.64/10 times....that's fifth highest from the 9 spot

sounds pretty good to me in the lead-off position that should only grow vs. the 9....

but what do I know....I'm just a 'fan'....

edit: I just realized his BA and SLG are the same....even more reason to plop him into the 1 spot...
Im just saying lets give him a 2-3 games and try before conference play. Otherwise, yeah, nine spot will "kinda" do the same thing.
"conference play"
