Recently another 4-star QB transferred - Braxton Burmeister, from Oregon to Virginia Tech. True, he won't be eligible to play this season, but he's on the team...
...meanwhile FSU has a couple of 3-star QBs, one of which has to sit out this season. That's it - just one scholarship QB who's eligible to play (note: the Noles are reportedly planning to host graduate transfer Nick Starkel, 3-star QB formerly at Texas A&M).
I know the Noles didn't get the QB recruit(s) they wanted, but what's up with passing on so many QB transfers? QB has shown to be one position where transfers can often start and perform well in a new environment, but so far FSU hasn't grabbed one of any note (although former W. Michigan QB Wyatt Rector is enrolling as a preferred walk-on it seems).
If not for 2 positions - QB and OL - the Seminoles would have the best roster in the ACC. Yet holes at those positions plagued them last season and may continue to plague them if they can't get those holes plugged - FAST!
What's going on in Tallahassee? Can anyone shed some light? Is it the coaching staff, or just a "series of unfortunate events"?
They've got two QB's that are trying to get hardship waivers to play this year and I suspect the trash fire of an offensive line has been a turn off for most graduate transfers so far.
Who would look at that offensive line play and choose FSU?
The dismal offensive line is triple bad, because not only does it depress OL recruiting, but QB and RB recruiting as well. They're going to have get the OL to at least mediocre, so highlight reels of FSU QBs being decimated don't continue to go viral.
I mean, there is simply no way to sell that. I think the FSU staff probably underestimated just how impossible it would be to overcome the negative recruiting around the line. I mean, if you had a kid, would you let them play on or behind that line right now?
It's not a one year fix. But it doesn't have to be a five year fix either. Somehow they need to get that line to just "not that good" next year, and hold the 2020 QB they've got committed.
But if the OL is as bad this season as it was last season, I don't think it will be surmountable for this staff, it's just too devastating to recruiting too many positions.

Good points. I saw the OL recruits and thought maybe the coaching staff could sell them as "the cavalry has arrived".
They didn't get that level of OL recruits. They were hunting a couple big fish, I think that was the idea, but they didn't land them. One recruit has the potential to contribute given the state of the line, the others are longer term contributors, and none are ready to be handed the keys like if we'd gotten a couple five stars and a couple high four stars or something.

Under the best of circumstances, the OL can take a long time to contribute. Physical strength is more important than almost any other position, and schemes are very complex. Good O-lines are almost always anchored by several upperclassmen. This year's recruiting class has one 4-star and four 3-stars. That doesn't spell immediate relief.
I could see an offensive scheme this year that features a lot of rollouts, screen passes and shovel passes. Not what you'd expect from a Nole team that can usually out-talent most opponents.
