Nicely done, comprehensive piece by Rockford TV station.
Monty, at the time, was a great hire(I thought). Now not so much. Hammock is a great hire too. I think he will be awesome and get results. I don't think they "reached" in either hire. Both were considered great coaches with pedigree training.

Hammock is exactly what this university needed. He’s creating a buzz around NIU football that hasn’t been seen in a while. I don’t know if it’s his business acumen, but he is selling this program. You can follow his every move on social media. He’s been involved in the NIU community. Promoting careers night for his team, eating at campus dining hall with staff to get to know students, establishing great relationships with each college (business, education, etc). He promotes EVERYTHING that is NIU. He’s reconnecting the football program with the school. I just hope the students follow. You know the alumni will. You just get this sense of pride in NIU that just wasn’t there before. I’m ready to attend the spring game, heck I’ve never had a desire to see the spring game until now. Let’s hope this translates to wins on the field.

Great post!
Monty I have given so many chances as a fan, but his article saying he regretted leaving Michigan State is a deal breaker. You cannot keep a coach one that is losing AND doesnt want to be a part of the university anymore
Maybe MSU would hire Monty back. Would the pay be similiar. Ok I am dreaming. But does seem like change would be a good thing.
Yea I've been giving him the benefit of the doubt up until now. They aren't terrible but they don't seem to be getting any better. I think they've hit their ceiling with Monty. A below .500 ceiling.

NIU was also among the first few D1 universities to have a female AD.
