I keep getting this crap in my email regarding data verification so I looked up the phone number & this same number is used for some other schools.

1) Is there any reason to do this?
2) If so, can this be done instead on a UAB site through UAB?

Thanks.

An important deadline in the UAB alumni data verification project has just passed. I have arranged a deadline extension so we can confirm we have the most up-to-date information from you.

More than 90% of the alumni we've spoken with have confirmed revisions are necessary to their file.

Up-to-date alumni information is essential for developing career placement guides to benefit our students and alumni as well as determining our ranking in national evaluations.

Please call 1-855-912-1752 (toll-free) right away to verify the accuracy of your alumni information.

Please help us finalize this important UAB project by verifying your data immediately.

You will always be a Blazer!

Sincerely,

Jennifer R. Breland, Ph.D.
Executive Director
Same here. I haven’t responded yet. Not sure I’m going to.
My wife and I both got cards in the mail with the same info. We haven't responded either.
Ditto. I'm being inundate by the same yellow postcard type mail outs. Appears to be once or twice a month.

I bit the bullet several years ago and bought the lifetime for $500 so my guess is that it is unsolicited direct mail copied from a blanket, nonexclusive alumni database that someone submitted or gave them permission to pursue

I guess direct mail beats telemarketing calls because I never answer calls if I don't recognize the number or the ones that my call blocker misses
I have been harassed over this for at least several weeks & was trying to get it resolved in some way.

That way may end up being forwarding on to my junk folder.

Also, my physical address has changed since I graduated years ago so I don't believe I have been getting any mail correspondence on this.

Seems strange that they would use an outside corporation to do this (who does it for everyone else) if it was so critical to them.
It's only to sell you stuff and I'm not interested. I get a postcard from them about once a week. Very annoying.

What ? You mean you don't want to join Who's Who ? 03-lmfao
One important source of income for such donor funded organizations (like our UAB NAS and many charities) is the sale to other such organizations of up to date addresses and phone numbers of contributors. Give to one and you wind up with appeals from dozens of others.

I just got a call offering help with repayment of my student loan. Since I graduated in 1972, any loan I might have had was from a VERY patient source. Who might have been the source of contact info in this case?
Please take the time to respond to the request to update/verify your alumni data. This is a project that is being managed by the Alumni Affairs Office that will produce a UAB Alumni printed and digital directory. The information is collected and verified by Publishing Concepts, a company that we have partnered with to produce the directory for UAB. None of the information will be sold to any vendors or solicitors. The only place that this information will be included is in the official UAB Alumni Directory. Absolutely no purchases are necessary!!

Once you have responded, your name will be removed from the list and all future correspondence for this project should be stopped. If you have any questions or would like any additional information, please call the Alumni Affairs Office at 205-934-3555.

Question -- Who is going to monitor who buys the finished product with all that alumni contact information (with annually updated data)?
Yeah, I'm just going to ignore this request.
Not sure I understand why I should publicly put out my information for all the other alums.

All that I would need would be a way to tout my credentials should a job opportunity be needed.

And why couldn't we just contact the Alumni Office instead to provide this information?

Bob Slydell : What you do at Initech is you take the specifications from the customer and bring them down to the software engineers?
Tom Smykowski : Yes, yes that's right.
Bob Porter : Well then I just have to ask why can't the customers take them directly to the software people?
Tom Smykowski : Well, I'll tell you why, because, engineers are not good at dealing with customers.
Bob Slydell : So you physically take the specs from the customer?
Tom Smykowski : Well... No. My secretary does that, or they're faxed.
Bob Porter : So then you must physically bring them to the software people?
Tom Smykowski : Well. No. Ah sometimes.
Bob Slydell : What would you say you do here?

Yeah, they stopped sending those invitations at about the time I left science. 03-lmfao
If you want to update your info with the alumni society, just call their office or visit their website.
I did it through the mailer and they are trying to sell you a UAB alumni directory for what seems like an excessive amount of money.
I'm ignoring them. It's a for profit company that will try to sell you a directory.
That's the consensus on the UAB football facebook page.
UAB certainly knows who I am and how to contact me, so does the NAS. They do it all the time.

This is a money making method for an alumni directory production company. If UAB has authorized it and is getting a percentage or something, they shouldn't be.

We're ignoring and trashing in my house.

Publishing Concepts is already a vendor and solicitor, so that's 01-rivals.

"a company that we have partnered with" translation: a company we have contracted with in exchange for royalties based upon the sales of alumni directories
Not only are they dogging us with that "Yellow Post Card" direct mail, they also are carpet bombing everyone with the robo calls 1-855-912-1748. I've been hit twice a day about every other day for over a week now
