According to the Box Score the attendance at the Men's game was 2,869. I don't know how accurate that is but it was the most fans I have seen there in a while. Actually feels like a real basketball venue when they have the 2nd level seats pulled out. If they were any good that place could get 5,000. Student section had 6 kids today!!! Also weird that Sean Frazier was no where to be found!

Our AD has been MIA since he arrived
I saw ShawnTea working the fans in the courtside seats before the women’s game.
Shawn was there at the beginning of the men’s game too. Stood right in front of us.

Marketing. Imagine that.

Yup.

NIU should give out a free Kenny Battle bobble head next.

UI had 5 games where they gave them out for the 89 team. Battle, Gill, Liberty, Anderson and Hamilton.

Best part....they charged for them! Like $40 for the set!!!

Maybe we can honor the 90-91 team...for FREE????
As a student, me and a group of friends went to the upper deck where we can actually watch the game..

Crowd looked pretty good on TV. That should be our default attendance, 2-3k.

Any Nelson Club pics laying around?

Even when they played at Chick Evans early 90's, while some (organized)students sat behind one basket majority sat on sidelines on GA on west side. Was mush better to watch.
We need to establish basketball rivalries in state, over the week the Bradley at ISU game drew 9100 fans. Both of those schools are averaging about 5000 in down years

I think that was the north side. Court ran east-west. Main bleachers took advantage of the high arc of the ceiling. Pep band was in end court east side; group of organized students (forget what they called themselves; might have been the "Dog Pound;" not joking) took west end court.

Anyway, why not give students all five sections across the upper level, south side, facing the full court, across from the Nelson Club? These are general admission seats, and almost always empty.

Think of the promotions?! More and better seats for students! Facing the whole court!

And the cost? Other than a little marketing, almost zilch that I can see.

Verbal Abuse was the name of the section.

Cant have that nowadays, according to the PC patrol on here. All seriousness niu could draw more fans over a bball season than football. Chicagoland has always been a more bball over football town, plus the indoor vs outdoor. Get good and average 4k per game.

They could hear you from about anywhere at Chick Evans lol. You were right on top of the floor. Reserved was east side. end line and most if not all of west GA. I remember being low vs. Nebraska led by Rich King. They were giants. NIU won. They kept looking into the crowd. We were harassing them during warm ups as you were right on the floor. 03-cloud9

I went to a lot of women's games. They were tourney time back then With Lady Jane Albright. They also had tourneys that brought in t20 teams. I remember they played South Carolina w/ Beth Hunt who was awesome and their whole team came into the stands and sat by us after their game to shoot the breeze. Was pretty funny they'd come to sit by and talk to a bunch of guys from the other school! Not much else to do in DeKalb I guess.
Great days. Albright's team had a humongous rivalry with DePaul. Sold out several times, including one that set the Illinois wbb attendance record (at that time). Hosted first-ever NCAA tourney game (and won) vs. Texas Tech. Crowd was always into it, especially students.

Pep band had a thing going, harassing DePaul Coach Doug Bruno. One game Bruno had his team come out dribbling with money taped to basketballs that they tossed up into the pep band. Only shut up the band temporarily (can't keep a good Huskie down).

But then you missed the Kenny Battle 360 dunk right in your face!!!!
Kenny Battle against Ron Harper was amazing. I also remember watching highlights of a game on the 10:00 pm news , yes they acutally showed NIU highlights, and there I was in the Verbal abuse section standing in the front row wearing a yellow Central Michigan shirt I got from a friend who went to CMU. I am not sure why I felt that was a good time for the CMU shirt. Anyways those were the days when the Field house would rock even if a standard opponent.
