This Saturday the Monarchs will take on the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee St In their last game, the Blue Raiders had program win number 900. Head Coach Rick Insell, who has been at the helm since 2005, has 338 of those wins. Including three straight wins over ODU. This Saturday is also our annual Hoops for the Cure game. The first 1,000 fans will receive a free pink t-shirt. This is always an emotional game that is for a great cause. I’m glad that our young team will experience this.

The Blue Raiders schedule are 21-8 (12-4) with a RPI ranking of 56. They have a SOS of 135.

The team’s leading scorer is A’Queen Hayes. She started her career spending two years at Ole Miss where she was named to the All-SEC Freshman team, then sat out a year and played a year at Eastern Kentucky University. She was on the first team All-Ohio Valley Conference. She then transferred to MTSU but didn’t have sit out a year. Hayes and Johnson make a strong 1-2 punch for the Blue Raiders on the inside. Johnson was on the second team All-Conference USA team last year, but she was voted as the C-USA Preseason Player of the Year as well. On the outside, Sutton and Louro at the team’s main deep ball threats. But the hall mark of this team is strong defense. If you look at just conference only stats, they average 9.4 steals a game…second in the conference. Solid rebounding team and strong fundamentals.

Monarch Nation. You have two good teams on the floor and a great cause. What other reason do you need to come to the game?

Impressive win. Remarkable rebounding effort. Ashley Scott was tremendous with 12 boards. Wow.

She’s becoming a beast inside
Fantastic win for ODU. Even better when you consider we didn't have Morris in the line-up. But Aziah brought it with the three's today, 5-for-6. Now things are really interesting in the Standings.

1. Rice 11-0 . Remaining Games: FIU (h), FAU (h), @ North Texas, La Tech (h), @ UTSA At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if they go undefeated.
2. Middle Tennessee St 9-2. WKU (h), Marshall (h), @ UAB, FAU (h), @ WKU
3. Marshall 8-3. @ UAB, @ MTSU, WKU (h), @ ODU, FIU (h)
4. WKU 8-3. @ MTSU, @ UAB, @ Marshall, @ North Texas, MTSU (h)
5. ODU 8-4 @ Charlotte, Charlotte (h), Marshall (h), @ FAU
6. UAB 7-4 Marshall (h), WKU (h), MTSU (h), UTEP (h), @ La Tech

Throwing out Rice, you notice how all the top teams are going to start playing each other. The coming weeks will really separate the top of the pack. And for ODU, we have a home game against Marshall to influence the top. I think we can sneak into the top four and get that bye.

Great article about Wendy Larry coming to her first Lady Monarchs game as a fan. So glad time is healing those wounds. I hated to see her go, but it was time for that to happen. That said, she is truly an ODU legend, and beloved by the fan base. Welcome back Coach Larry.
