Although Bakersfield is the most uneducated mid-sized city in the USA. Of the top-100 US metros, it finishes dead last in % of adults with a college degree (14.7%).

And your first paragraph has an important part of DI in it it -- identity. So many D I schools have none, even in their own hometowns or metro areas. No wonder some have zero aupport, low attendance etc. Id rather be a Bakersfield than one of 10 DI schools in a huge metro area, and still unknown

If we continue the trend of the NCAA allowing more and more schools to leach off the major schools, eventually they will pull out and leave every one of those wannabes holding a not so sweet smelling bag. And they will pull down some legitimate D-I programs along with them. Enough is enough.

The problem is that the best schools from D2 are being blocked from moving up while schools with small enrollments get a spot in conferences. There are P5 programs who do not belong in a P5 football conference anymore.

Football isn't the problem here, basketball is. Everybody wants a piece of the NCAAT money. Do away with automatic tournament bids for conference champions, and then it doesn't matter how many schools there are in D-I, or how many conferences.

If there is going to be a limit of 32 conferences because of the tournament, then those conferences will just keep getting bigger - too big. Without the autobids, most D-I conferences would revert to smaller, more compact regional leagues. Which is the way it should be.

But if we believe what sometimes appears to be a majority sentiment on this board, God himself ordained that if there is a division championship, every conference must be represented in the tournament, no matter how weak they are. I'm not in that majority.

I wouldn't worry about that. IMO we are much closer to all the money in the sport blowing the top off of the NCAA's façade of "amateurism" than we are to the big boys leaving just because they're tired of throwing a few pennies to marginal D-I schools.

Yes! We have to keep embarrassments like UMBC beating Virginia from happening somehow! LOL 05-nono
