We've talked about him before, but its pretty cool to see what McMahon (former Buzz Peterson assistant at UNCW) has been doing with Murray State since taking over the HC job in 2015.

His record since taking over is 76-41 (.650) and 42-18 (.700) against OVC competition. And his top player on this year's 17-4 (8-2) squad, sophomore Ja Morant, is projected to be a top 5 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. McMahon's then assistant, James Kane, discovered him while recruiting Tevin Brown.

After losing to West Virginia as a 12-seed in last year's NCAA Tournament, this year's Racers team could very easily be the kind of squad that pulls a 1st round upset and then some, provided they get past other tough OVC squads like Belmont and Austin Peay to take the autobid.

Wonder how he liked his time in Wilmington? COGS

Certainly one to keep an eye on for the future, but seeing that his boss here was shown the door I'd put the possibility at slim to none.

Yeah, i agree. More wishful thinking on my part.
Also Murray State to UNCW is at best a lateral move. After signing a contract extension last June, McMahon makes 400k per season. That's more than C.B. makes (300k per year).

I didn't create this thread with the intent of pushing him as our next HC down the road. That ship sailed a while ago. Just wanted to give him some love given that he was a fantastic assistant coach here. He'll end up getting a Big 10/Big 12 job soon enough.
My post was being more sarcastic. I agree, he's in a good spot to make the next step, which would be well above us.

100% accurate. Murray state is a far superior program compared to uncw if you look at history of performance and sustained ncaa appearances and nba talent. Not even close.

The only program in the state who screwed up worse than the Benny and Buzz hires was app state letting Matt leave with Buzz and hiring Jason Capel as their head coach. Matt was a slam dunk hire for them and an App alumni.

Wow, I didn't know that. Terrible. Luckily for them they have FBS football to fall back on.

Not a big deal. The Intramural football program at UNCW is on the rise.

In Buzz's first year - when we 'overperformed' - Matt was the reason. I heard from a great sources that Matt wanted more authority, was denied, then left. Th rest of the Buzz Peterson era was just an unmitigated disaster...
