This Thursday the Monarchs will travel on the road to play the North Texas Mean Green. On paper, this game seems like a trap game. ODU is playing great, winning six in a row. North Texas is riding a four game losing streak. And on Saturday, ODU will play the number one team in Con USA, Rice. It would be easy to write off this game. But rest assured with coach Nikki, she won’t do that

The Mean Green’s schedule so far has them with a 10-9 record, 3-4 in Con USA. They are 6-3 at home. But keep in mind that part of the team’s schedule has them playing three non-division one team.

Former University of Kansas transfer Terriell Bradley is the team MVP on offense and is a great defender. George stays inside while Bradley, Godohart, Owens, and Mitchell will launch them from anywhere. Like ODU, they are an aggressive team. They are a team known for playing defense as they rank 5th in the league. With just Con USA games, they rank 4th.

ODU leads Con USA in rebounding, thanks to two freshmen. Ajah Wayne who leads the team with 8.8 boards per game and Amari Young with 6.4. Together they have been a big part of ODU having the top rebounding team in the Conference. ODU averages 42.2 a game, but if you look at just conference games they are still number one averaging 39.8 per game.

It’s not easy to play at the Super Pit, but I think the ODU Road Warrior mentality will shine through. And they will need it since the next game will be against the top team in the league, Rice. They have the preseason player of the year and the tallest player in the league on there roster. It's going to be fun!

Yep, thanks for the update. This is a game ODU should grab, but winning on the road is always difficult. Go Monarchs.
ODU seemed to lead most of the game by a decent margin but ends up winning by 1. They play 7-0 in conference Rice this weekend!
ODU survives and wins 72-17 over the Mean Green. Wierd game. ODU was outrebounded 42-30, where North Texas had 17 offensive rebounds to ODU's 11. Yet ODU had 18 2nd chance points to NTU's 15. In the second half, Wayne had 14 points and Dejah Carter had 10 points. Total team effort as we had five players score in double digits. Wayne had 16 points, Morris had 10, Edwards had 13, Carter had 14, and Robinson had 10. This is why ODU is hard to defend.

Next game, ODU vs #1 Rice that beat Charlotte 61-51. This game will be streamed on ESPN3 and it should be a good one. Let's go ODU!
The 72-71 game was thrilling. ODU could easily have let this one slip by at the end with a one-point lead and forced to defend for 17 seconds to preserve the win. And, you know what. They did it. North Texas looked a lot better than its 10-10 would indicate. Nice win for the Monarchs. If you had told me at the beginning of the year that this team would be 16-5, 7-2 in conference play, I wouldn’t have believed you. I never had doubts Coach Nikki would get ODU to this point, but I thought it would have taken a couple of years. Very proud of the team, the coach and the school.
