Two games this week:
-- Weds, 6 p.m., vs WMU, at the Convo, sked says espn3 (NOTE: NOW MOVED TO FEB 18, 6 P.M. @ CONVO)
-- Sat, 1:30 p.m., vs EMU, on the road, sked says espn3

Opening the week at 11-8 (3-4 mac)

Recap last week:
-- W 70-59 vs Akron
-- L 69-53 vs Ohio
-- L 93-64 vs Buffalo

Buff had to get some help from the (official) crowd of 2,174. WLBK broadcaster barely heard over crowd noise several times. Home court advantage makes a difference.

Thoughts? Opines? News, notes, etc.?

Injuries, hence depth, maybe starting to catch up with the team??? It’s hard to lose your best player, a big, and a contributing guard and stay afloat as long as they have. These recent losses (CMU, Ohio, Buff) are all against REALLY good teams. Even with decreased depth was hoping that one or two of these were more competitive.
I don't know the injury status, team-wise, though Courtney Woods and Janae Poisson are out. Last season the Huskies were 11-4 and rolling along when hit with a spate of injuries, lost 7 straight and finished 15-15. I think another poster who knows more about the inner workings said the WBB staff was looking into the situation, r.e., women athletes being more susceptible to certain kinds of injuries, and what they might do about it.

Last week being a tough sked vs. some of the best in the MAC. One game at a time.

It's well-known that the run-and-gun only works if the shots are falling and the defense is good. Northern's defense is just ok at best; needs work and some people to step up.
The above said, 11 games left. Barring any major mis-steps or mishaps, could go 18, 19, 20 wins. Still have a here-there with Toledo and on the road at CMU. First-round MAC tournament games are at campus sites.
Northern makes it official: The NIU women's basketball game at the Convo versus Western Michigan this week has been moved to Thursday, Jan. 31, at 6 p.m. (Was sked for Wednesday at 6 pm).

Also, on Tuesday, the NIU men's team's game versus Ohio at the Convo will tip off at 5 p.m. (CT), two hours earlier than its previously scheduled start.

Apparently, this is to get the men's game going before the brunt of the cold, and the women's game after.
Wonder when the Western wbb team arrives? Would be a difficult flight/drive if they make trek on Wednesday.

But that’s what your director of ops is for to handle all the travel issues.

I saw that West Virginia hoops team got on the wrong plane and ended up in Phoenix. How the hell does that happen?

(posted on NIU website Wednesday)----
DeKalb, Ill. –The Northern Illinois University women's basketball game scheduled for Thursday, January 31 at 6 p.m. in the NIU Convocation Center versus Western Michigan has been postponed, NIU officials announced Wednesday. The two teams will now meet in the NIU Convocation Center on Monday, February 18 at 6 p.m.

The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday night of this week and was pushed back to Thursday due to the university closure for weather. The latest postponement is due primarily to travel and scheduling issues for the Broncos.

The Huskie women's basketball team returns to action this Saturday, February 2 at 1:30 p.m. (CT) when they play at Eastern Michigan, and return home to take on Bowling Green on Wednesday, February 6 at 6 p.m.

Tickets purchased for this week's WMU game will be honored on February 18, and season ticket members should use the tickets marked January 30 on that date.
