MVC Expansion Talk

MVC wants to get back into the top 10 to be up there with the AAC. GCU's name game up in this article. This spring we might know more if the MVC will invite a couple of teams.
Nothing says MVC like adding a team from the middle of Arizona. Can we stop being silly now? Directly from the article:

Geography Matters

It isn’t a deal breaker, but it is very significant. Minimizing both the cost of travel and missing of class time is of significant importance to university Presidents.

There may have been a day when GCU was interested and/or actively pursuing conference alternatives to the WAC, but I think we are past that point in time. GCU's president and AD have both assumed leadership roles at the conference level, which signals to me much more of an intent and vested interest in continuing to improve the WAC than it does an eye to jump elsewhere.
These idiots that write these articles. It's like they are just throwing $hit at the wall and hope something sticks. The MVC would never take GCU. Never.
Even if GCU was closer to the MVC, why would they take them? GCU hasn’t done anything in the WAC and adding markets has proven to mean nothing in 1 bid conferences.

This article was a speculative article written over a year ago. It mentions possible expansion targets of Denver, UTA and GCU. Denver has an RPI of 290 and was crushed by Seattle and UVU. UTA has an RPI of 211 and lost to UTRGV by 11 at home. GCU has an RPI of 152. There is a lot of glitter with GCU, but they still have not found the gold.

GCU does not have to travel to the Midwest to find a good basketball conference. They are already in one. The WAC is a better conference for GCU. They already have rivalries developing with schools like NMSU and UVU. They have old rival in CBU. According to the ticket office at CBU, the game Saturday Night at CBU is probably a sell-out. They will have another old rival joining in Dixie State in 2020.

The MVC is a good basketball conference but it is not what it was with Creighton and Wichita State. If the MVC was really interested in expansion, Murray State and Belmont are much more logical additions. They are regional fits with good basketball programs.
I was really hoping no one would respond to this stupid thread and it would just die away. Here I am, an idiot myself, for responding...
