247 Sports American Conference Recruiting - Basketball

According to 24/7 Sports, as of 1-23-19, here are the conference basketball recruiting rankings. Probably won't be too much movement until the April signing period.

Didn't really look to see who is "in" on certain players, but for my Memphis Tigers, we have a very good shot at landing at least 1 more 5 star PF (Trendon Watford), and a 3 star SG (Damion Baugh). We got a shot at some other players, but those 2 are the most interested in the program.

So, how is everybody else's recruiting going?

*****correction, Uconn has the #31 ranked player....my bad Huskies!*****

#FakeA**News!

You disrespect Akok.
UConn is also in on a number of high-quality recruits. It will be interesting to see who finishes with the number one recruiting class in this conference - Memphis or UConn.

I don't see us having much higher than a #20 class. Looks like we're gonna strike out with our top Center targets.

Yeah, I missed that on the graphic, but I put in a correction.

I haven't checked in a week or two but last I looked UConn was the favorite for a couple or three top 100 recruits. Has that changed?
Sampson seems pretty happy with the recruiting class. If Sampson is happy with the class, I'm happy with the class.

In terms of Centers:

1. Cockburn chose Illinois.
2. Wahab announces in a week and it feels like Georgetown.
3. Mitchell seems to want to reclassify to 2020.

I suppose we still have a shot with Precious, but there's a lot of competition and UNC Roy is coming on super strong now.

That's pretty much it for 2019 recruits we're involved with unless we can find a 2020 big to reclassify.
Samari Curtis had a .9518 composite ranking and was ranked 113th nationally when he signed with Cincy at the beginning of August. He then rose to 98th a couple weeks later.

He's having a very good season so far averaging 30+/game against decent competition.

Wonder why such a big drop for him.

There is five star Precious but aren't you in on the 7'1" 4 * Center Muriel - ranking the 50s somewhere? Maybe not, predictions on him pretty sparse.

ESPN came out with their revised top 100 today. That may have dropped his composite over at 247.

I used to live in H-town back in the day, and the city always had a LOT of basketball talent. Is it still that way? Man, if Houston could keep the talent in the city, they would be a perennial top 40 school.

Ya I don't think anyone knows what's going on with Marial. He visited in the Fall, but haven't heard anything since. I think Hurley and staff prioritized the 3 Centers I listed above.
Don't really care about rankings, but pretty excite about Damian Dunn. Should be a pretty solid all around player for us.
Mick Cronin's recruiting has been very unimpressive for several seasons now. But don't say that over at Bearcat Banter or you'll get labeled a Mick hater.
Cronins sucks as a recruiter. He gets guys that are offensive projects that play hard, are athletic and are willing to play defense first.

That's fine if you do this with a sprinkling of players, but to build a team of them is stupid and it is reflected in his March w/l record. In the big dance you have to score the basket. UC doesn't...and that's why they don't get out of the first weekend. As long as he is coach here, UC will win 20 games a year, finish in the top of the AAC, make the post season and get bounced early. Wash, Rinse, Repeat....
ECU is the favorite for Charles Coleman and James Jean-Marie. They would probably put ECU in the top 3.

We're not going to jump a team with a 4 star recruit. We may jump Houston if Coleman commits, but the fact that Jean-Marie is currently unrated won't help our rankings.

Yes they will. Coleman will be a ~15 point boost. Jean-Marie will be rated and even unrated he will boost it. Suggs is also not being counted yet.

Adding the 349th ranked player and someone unranked(per 24/7) isnt going to put you in the Top 3. Sorry. If you do the class calculator and add them you still are in 5th behind Houston, UCONN, WSU, and Memphis
