This team has hit a lull since conference play started, especially in the last three. If I'm being honest the only game I think we should have won is one we lost, Marshall. It seems like we are biding our time, waiting to find form again. We've done well enough to go 3-2 against five of the tougher conference opponents. But we will not win the tournament at this level right now. I'm sticking with the bunch and hoping we get hot in March.

Let's get a double digit victory in this one!
If we don’t close out on open 3pt shooters better we will still be on thin ice. Other teams are making open shots and we are not. That’s the difference between 1 point wins and 10 point wins.
Teams that see us often and know us better know how to exploit our weaknesses.

Gonna have to develop more consistent post scoring, like we did against La Tech, in order to win consistently in CUSA.

Especially on the road........so we need to make sure this game gets us right.
I still think losing Godwin has contributed greatly to this inconsistency. We lost size, depth, rebounding, team defense and most importantly... shooting. He stretched the floor soo much for this team. I know he only averaged 7 points or whatever, but u had to honor him. Anyone that scouted ODU knew that kid could stroke it looking at his form.
I think every game is gonna be close... from here on out.

On the positive side... more opportunities for Kithcart and Wade. I’m enjoying watching the growth of Dickens as well.

Southern Miss plays close games. Slow tempo, good defensive team. Very unorthodox style with heavy guard lineups. I’d expect another close game...lol. I’m getting used to them.

Completely agree. We’re still recovering from Godwin’s injury and are in the process of re-establishing team chemistry/rotations. Godwin’s ability to stretch the defense is soarly missed. Hopefully Justice can fill the void. X can hit the three occasionally (and I will always remember the one he hit against vcu) but his offensive game seems to be more prolific from 15 feet and in.

On the post game Dave said the margin across 5 games our scoring margin is 5 pts. Wild. (and not ideal)
It's not just us. Close games is the way of life in the conference this year it seems. 4 of the 6 last night were decided by 3 or less.
The bottom half has improved and the top took a step back. There won't be many games this season where I will be all that confident going in that we'll get the W. We also don't really seem to be any better at home than on the road this year. While the crowd probably helped the comebacks against WKU and VCU, we also pulled off a great comeback @Syracuse in front of a lot more fans that were hostile.

Exactly, just look at our first place team, Marshall. They beat us by 3. UNCC by 1, WKY by 1. Games are going to be tight. The thought that we could be 5-0 or 0-5 could be said for quite a few teams.

SAME OLD OFFENSE is the reason. NOTHING new make us very predictable.

The Godwin shooter theory is a little suspect to me. He was not shooting particularly well from three, and X and Kithcart are shooting far better. If we are lacking someone that defenders have to run at on the three point line, it is because X and Kithcart are not being used in a way to make that happen.

There is no question Godwin was our best shooter from long range. He was coming on very well.
To me, this team hasn't been the same since BJ's injury. He doesn't seem the same either. Three straight conference POWs and nothing since.

Unconventional team offensively and defensively, constantly changing patterns and schemes. Great 3-pt shooting team and very opportunistic scoring off TOs (15.9 pts/g). Incredible A/TO ratio...they really don't make mistakes
This is separation week. Got the Win vs La Tech which helped now a must win tomorrow to really help us for a top 5 finish. Then maintain through the 3 travel away games next week.
The game tomorrow is critical given the tough road stretch next week. Monday at uncc (w/an odd 4 PM start) and then on to TX for games Thurs and Sat. I’m hoping for two out of three next week - but the game tomorrow is must win.

I agree he was our best LOOKING shooter, but the stats would indicate he was far from the best by percentage, and frankly his percentage was lackluster, In fact, he percentage was such that if a defense were going to let one guy have an open shot, it would have to be him or Caver.

X: 43%
Justice: 42%
BJ: 38%
Godwin: 32%
He was starting to hit his stride before the injury. Last three games show where he was at. I’d say he was becoming a key player in our success.

Normal starting lineup. No changes. Looks like BJ has all the KT tape off. Thinking good game. Feeling good!
