I miss Memphis so much because I can't keep up with the top basketball talent in the city. I enjoyed "discovering" new talent any Tuesday and Friday night. I still remember "discovering" Penny when he started Elliott's Sr season for Treadwell when Darryl Early needing replacing as point guard. That being said just wanted to know what the basketball heads like me think when they see the Sophomore class in Memphis.

Everyone knows about Jonathan Lawson and he seems to be doing really good at Woodale. I've heard about Aldon Applewhite 6-6 guard at Lausanne. Never seen him play but he has a name on the summer circuit. The two guys who are getting the most shine lately is Kennedy Chandler from Briarcrest, and Jalen Brown at Trezevant. Jalen has been blowing up since he hit the last second shot to beat Mitchell early this year.

Has anybody seen these guys play and can provide any insight?

I predict this thread will blow up in 12 months when they are close to finishing their Jr. years.
Sophomores? look out for Alex Anderson at Tipton Rosemark Academy (TRA) in Millington. He was offered by Kermit Davis a year or 2 ago when KD was at MTSU. Now Alex is taller, longer and very very athletic. I keep waiting for his name to pop up more and more. He's a very good defender and finisher on the offensive end. He has a weird shot but it's effective. He looked good vs Woodale too. Steps up in big games.

Alex's brother CJ played for Derick Kellogg at UMass. Solid 4 year guy.

He has another brother who's a good ball player too. HS Senior teammate at TRA by the name of Andrew Anderson #11. Very high BBall IQ. Very skilled. Leadership qualities. They both work hard and play hard. Teachers tell me they're great students too. Just not sure about Drew's size going into D-1.

Thank you gusrob. I'll be looking for him when I'm back in town. Do you have any idea where he will play in the summer?

Norton Hurd and Team Thad do a great job of promoting and developing guys to be a summer team.

Oh yeah? I'm not real in the mix. I try to find a few good HS games every year to check out and guys will catch my eye. I liked Alex a lot and dug a little deeper.

Curious to see what this year's landscape looks like with Penny out of the mix. Haven't heard of too much shake-up really.

Good TRA knowledge, thanks. Cedric Anderson, their dad, is the TRA HS coach. The sons were at Southwind. TRA hired the dad and got the 2 sons in the deal. Andrew committed to South Alabama in September.

Yeah, they're fun to watch. Fun aggressive pressure D--kind of a half court press. Great communication and teamwork on D that isn't often seen at that level. Offense is fun. They have explosive talent in the Anderson boys. Also have a big Center that looks the part. Not as skilled or aggressive as big fella at Whitehaven, but has potential. I'm afraid they have injuries this year. Tysen Banks Senior 2/3/4 is huge at HS level but size will hurt him at next level. Heart bigger than any I've seen.Howard Grey Senior 1/2/3 also out with injury. Huge blows to them but they look GOOD. Young guys Jay Heigel (Jr) and Ethan Stewart (So) look solid. Their futures are bright. VERY VERY VERY well coached team. I recommend checking them out.

TRA vs FACS game tonight should be fun.
I'm not having much luck finding tournament brackets. Anyone able to help?

What does East's loss vs Whitehaven mean? Lower seed at State? Or does it drop them out of tournament?

Olive Branch lost to Cedar Hill. On a buzzer beater from what I've heard. Anyone know anything about these

TRA won their Division. In the STate Tournament they have a 1st rd Bye. They'll play the winner of Notre Dame (East TN) and Goodpasture (Middle TN) at Home Sat Feb 23 in the Quarterfinal. Final 4 at Lipscomb University March 1-2.

Ultimately it means nothing. They are just the number 2 seed from their District.
They have to wait till District 15 is decided between Houston, Ridgeway, Southwind and Kirby.

As the number 2 seed from 16 AAA they will have to play the number 3 team from 15AAA and more than likely will have the number 1 team from 15AAA waiting for them in the next round. If they make it to the Regional final, they are in the sub state win or lose. If they lose they travel to the region 7 winner (Which now looks like Bartlett but who know) If they win Region they would host the Region 7 loser.

Winner of the sub state game goes to the state tournament. Here the state Regional bracket. East is all the way at the bottom.

olive branch has to play an additional game

should not have lost on that play

from the desoto times (sounds like mhsaa needs to update their handbook)

"There was one problem with the shot, however. Since it came with three-tenths of a second remaining, the basket should not have counted. By rule, the only shot that legally counts in that situation would be a tip-in off the inbounds pass.

But the officials did not make the correct call and left the floor with Center Hill players and fans rejoicing and Olive Branch players and fans in complete shock."

When contacted about the final sequence, Rickey Neaves with the MHSAA responded that while several videos were posted about the last play, video review can't change an official's ruling.

"We can not use video to review calls or rules violations per the NFHS (National Federation of High School Associations) rule book. I have contacted the officials and talked to them and also with the assigner who was present at the game," Neaves wrote by email reply. "The call was appealed by Olive Branch and handled per our handbook. The results of the game will stand as called."
