Did you guys seek entrance into C-USA or was it always SBC or bust?

My question is App ever going to get serious about basketball?

Truthfully, before the move up I knew next to nothing about the Sunbelt. I was all in on the SoCon.

All I knew about C-USA was tied up in the name and former membership. I knew nothing about Judy or that there were already 27 teams in the league. I didn't know who was leaving or who was joining. For that reason I was hoping for a C-USA invite. Ultimately Sunbelt has worked out better for App than C-USA may have.

Regarding basketball: trust me, a LOT of us want basketball to be better. Jason Capel wrecked our program. A lot of us thought Jim Fox (a long time Davidson assistant) would improve things. He's done well in improving the off-court issues but the on-court results haven't been there. Unfortunately he received a 2 year extension going into this season so who knows what will happen.

I was on the FBS feasibility committee at App during the conference shake up and we did seek to join CUSA. CUSA 2.0 was clearly better than the SBC at that time with their TV contract and bowl tie ins.

During that period ECU was a member and Terry Holland was a big proponent for our addition as well as their president (most ECU fans didn’t agree). Other leaders in CUSA didn’t agree and wanted to focus on markets (problem is location doesn’t equal market share). Once UNCC was invited the discussion was between WKU and App, no brainer for Judy and UNCC.

It worked out fine, we’ve had a blast in the SBC. I still believe long term the two conferences swap programs, but only time will tell.

I think you are the only person that would want to trade Marshall for Coastal. Marshall is one of the few teams in this conference that is a name brand.

That is one of the dumbest arguments. You beat the worst Marshall team since 1983 by what, two points? lol. You’re .250 against us. 1-3. So yeah, L on your schedule.

App has more of the Charlotte market than UNC - Harrisburg does. I'm not sure how to quantify that but qualitatively, based on my observations, there are many more App supporters around than Harrisburg.

Most Marshall fans didn't want App either. I suppose that they thought they left App State and Georgia Southern behind them. Now with little hope of getting to the AAC, they want to join up and wreck the G5 (Manziel pun).

Charlotte and UTSA got invites from the Sun Belt. If they took them, that changes CUSA's next move. In that scenario, it's entirely possible that App gets the call. Otherwise, they probably have to wait for the next round of realignment, since it's doubtful that the Belt would add two schools that close together unless they absolutely had to for backfilling.
