You can add them to the slumping winter sports teams. It’s been a long time since they scored as low as they did Sunday. The first meet is always a little low but they didn’t even average 9.60 per event (usually come close to 9.75 per which is a huge difference). You could see it coming at their Blue and Gold exhibition where hardly anybody beat the 9.50 threshold for throwing a T shirt to the crowd. They are heavily a freshman team this year and they lost 3 awfully good seniors from last year. That adds up to trouble. Thirty six teams out of about 65 teams qualify for the NCAAs and my guess is we won’t even be close. Our only hope is that the NCAA changed the scoring rules because overall scores were getting too compressed. I can always hope.
