Toledo up 37-36. Love our fight and energy in this game.
Can’t guard the three and turn the ball over down the stretch are all ingredients for a loss. Way too careless! This was a game we should have won.
Embarrassed again. Led 68-67 and Toledo closed it on an 18-9 run. What changed between Dec. 15 and now?

This was a game where the youth on the team really showed down the stretch.
It really annoys me that WMU basketball's twitter account uses gifs from different old games to describe what is going on in the game.

Current team does not know how to win.

I don’t think anything changed. I didn’t read much into the competitive loss at UM. Probably just played over our heads. We came into that game on the heels of losses to Nichols and SC Upstate.
Basketball is dead at Western. Fans don’t care and the student really don’t care. Time for a change or just drop the sport and put the money towards hockey.

I’d be ok with that. Hockey is the 1 sport we could legitimately be a national powerhouse in.
Drop BB. Ridiculous! Nearly all D1 programs go through ups and downs. We are clearly in a down period now for a variety of reasons. Overall, the BB program has been far better than Hockey over the past 20 or so years. I love Hockey and BB both. No need to get ridiculous.

LMAO. Based on what? Some phony/meaningless MAC West titles? Go back 25 years, hockey has 5 NCAA appearances, hoops 3.
Well, without getting into the whole Divisional title debate, Going back to 1998, I count 5 BB conference titles (3 regular season, 2 conference tourneys, 1 NCAA win) to 1 for Hockey (1 conference tourney) and 14 .500 or better seasons vs. 8 for hockey. Hockey’s average league finish over 20 years is between 6th - 7th place. Nothing against hockey but we went through some brutal years. To Hawk’s credit, BB has been pretty even keel with some nice spikes. Tough hoops year now for sure. Hoping for success in both and I’ll always be there for both.
Kent State got pummeled by 34 Saturday are they dropping BB also? The Golden Flashes have beat Oregon State, Albany, Vanderbilt, and took Louisville to the last few mins losing 83-70. It's the MAC folks. Bus leagues that play twice a week can be unpredictable. Toledo won Saturday with veteran leadership and depth. Our depth is sitting on the bench this year in street clothes. Facts are facts.

Steve Hawkins W/L record at WMU is better than Andy Murray.

Hockey takes 16 of only 60 teams to NCAA tournament. Has Western ever won anything there?
There are 352 D1 basketball teams.

Well... point remains week in and week out hockey competes at the top level of its sport and has the only legitimate chance of winning it all of all the revenue sports at WMU.
I'm rooting for the Broncos.

But let's look at what really happened Saturday afternoon.

The game was tied 70 all, with 3:35 left.

We saw/know what happened after that.

Toledo finished the game with:

Sanford: Senior
Knapke: Senior
Navigato: Senior
Littleson: Sophomore
Jackson: Sophomore

We finished the game with:

Davis: Senior
Dugan: Senior
Printy: Junior
Flowers: Sophomore
Wilkens: Sophomore

1 year in experience difference between those two lineups

With respect to depth.

Toledo's 5 players (above) played 156 minutes Saturday.

WMU's 5 players (above) played 150 minutes Saturday.

And WMU had the home court advantage.

Toledo didn't win "because of experience"

And they didn't win due to WMU's "lack of depth".

Toledo won because their players are/were better. And because they executed (on the road) when it counted.

Brandon and Bryce would have helped.

I'm also quite sure Toledo fans wish their team hadn't committed so many unforced turnovers , and missed so many open 3's.

If ifs and buts were candy and nuts.....
If we dropped hockey.. how much money would we save? And could we use that money to help our basketball program? It boggles my mind CMU and EMU can schedule all these home games, yet we can't get enough home games year in and year out. We need a new basketball facility!!!
