ATHENS -- When Playboy magazine unveils its All-America football team in its August edition, Georgia's star defensive end David Pollack will be missing from the photograph.
Pollack, the 2002 Southeastern Conference Player of the Year, was one of 22 college football players honored by Playboy. But he declined the invitation, saying the magazine's contents conflicted with his religious beliefs.
"When you talk to somebody about living their lives the right way and abstaining from sex until marriage, posing in Playboy would send the wrong message," said Pollack, a junior from Snellville.
Alabama offensive tackle Wesley Britt also declined to pose in this year's spread.
"I respect David's right to choose whether or not to go," said Georgia coach Mark Richt. "He's his own man."
Pollack and Britt join a list of players who have turned the magazine down in recent years.
Oklahoma defensive tackle Tommie Harris declined an offer to appear on the All-America team last year saying he disagreed with the magazine's portrayal of women. Oklahoma linebacker Rocky Calmus and Florida quarterback Danny Wuerffel also turned the offer down in 2001 and 1996, respectively.
Former college basketball stars Mark Price of Georgia Tech and North Carolina players Kenny Smith, J.R. Reid, Rasheed Wallace and Antawn Jamison also have declined offers to appear in the magazine.
