it still seems like AJ is not gelling with some of his team mates . Anyone else notice this ?03-confused
As another poster pointed out in another thread, AJ seems to have a tude problem. That’s something the coaching staff knew when they got him and they’ll have to continue to work on him so he doesn’t negatively impact the culture Penny wants to build.

He seems like a bit of a weird personality. A kid who's finding his way. He could end up being one of our all time best players or he could be a total bust. Hopefully he finds his way and goes a productive route. Honestly I'm glad he has Penny as a leader in this life. Honestly I'm glad he has Penny as a leader in this life. Someone to learn from.
It genuinely appears to be a problem with the upperclassman. I think there is a major cultural difference, attitude and expectations between the freshman and seniors. The seniors are used to being mediocre and playing with low intensity. I believe the freshman have a hard time understanding that as they are polar opposites, they are used winning, playing hard the entire game and winning. Alo appears to be more of the quiet and stoic type on the court, in that he is not going to give a negative response or reaction. Jones is on the complete opposite end where he is very responsive and is not afraid to show his disappointment or frustration and Harris is somewhere in the middle. I have seen Jones and Harris both react with visible frustration at times.

Just last night there were at least two or three times we did not win a possession on a lose ball because Martin refused to get on the floor. There are times the upperclassman to do cut or screen with any real intent to get open or actually screen the ball handler's defender. It is just my opinion based on observation that most of Jones' frustration appears geared toward the guys on the team who are supposed to be the upperclassman and leaders and they are not filling those roles. This is a weird year where you a player who is on his 3rd coach in 4 years, players who signed with a different coach, all of whom are used to lower intensity - walk the ball up the court ball - and frankly being mediocre who are now fused with young "hot shot" players that expect to win - run and gun - and play at very high intensity levels.

In short, I do not think Jones will be an issue after this year when more players join the team that have similar expectations and the same attitude, culture and expectations.
I really haven’t noticed. I was interpreting it as he’s trying to be a leader and sometimes leaders have to keep guys in check.

Penny mentioned on the pre-game the meshing of the Seniors and His Guys has taken some time. Still not all there IMO.

Jones is a bit of an enigma. He's very talented and has really improved his shot. When he makes a mistake he seems to pout a bit and quit playing. On that turnover he had at halfcourt I guess he wasn't sure if he would be called for double dribble if he picked it up. It would have been better to pick it up and have a dead ball foul than to give ECU the ball on a break. Even when he lost the ball he jogged back on the play.

Before turnover:
17:23 made 3
16:37 made 3
16:10 blocked a shot
15:53 offensive rebound
15:51 made 2 FT's
14:13 made 2 FT's
13:20 turnover
After turnover:
12:49 missed 3
9:01 missed 3
5:46 rebound
3:40 steal
2:55 missed layup
2:31 foul
1:31 steal

Before the turnover, he had 10 points on 2-2 3pt and 4-4 FT's, a blocked shot and an offensive rebound.
After the turnover, he has 0 points and he was 0-2 on 3's, missed a layup, had 2 steals and 1 rebound.

He's got to quit checking himself out of games.
He gave Martin a look after a Jones pass to JM ended up being a turnover. Hard to tell who’s fault that was, but AJ’s frustration was shown clear as day on TV. I don’t sweat that too much. He isn’t Jordan or Kobe, but both of those dudes could stare a hole in someone if they messed up. Nothing wrong with having high expectations, but you do have to be careful with the blaming/pouting.

He shouldn’t have picked the ball up, but what was Thornton doing? You could tell AJ was trying to get him the ball; instead RT was unaware and turned his back to run toward the paint.

We also inbounded a ball that hit a player in the back. Lol. This team does some boneheaded stuff. Communication/poor passing appears to be an issue at times.
Jones, IMO, is the most talented player on this year's roster. However, he is only a freshman and subject to inconsistency. He will continue to improve upon maturation.

By the end of February 2020, the Tigers will be a very dangerous team. 03-cloud9
Spectators nowadays are so soft. Any sense of emotion from a player is frowned upon now. Twan played with passion last night.... one of the few who did.

Yea he was frustrated with Martin on the errant pass... Martin had a wide open shot as Twan drove drawing the defense in only for Martin to not be in position to receive the kickout pass (Martin rolled to the goal leaving Jones with no angle on the pass out).

Twan was one of the few players to play with a mean streak last night. He threw elbows on his rebounds, didn't shy away from contact on his drives. Meanwhile the interior players allowed easy penetration and uncontested layups and dunks all night long. I'd be fuming too as a wing player watching a guard drive coast to coast thru multiple players for uncontested layups...
I won't even mention Maurice.

I agree with this.
I don’t view jones as being too much of a problem. He seems to be trying hard to do what Penny and staff are wanting from him.
There was one play where Jones lost the ball and assumed it was going to out of bounds. It didn’t and ECU hasd am easy layup. There was some frustration over that.
Speaking of diving on the floor remember when cal dove on the floor for a loose ball in his Armani suit his first year here?

Hope the seniors weren't frustrated because I also saw 3 ECU guys dive and Jeremiah bent over to grab it and so did Parks. I feel like Penny is saying these guys that have lost a bunch just don't know what it takes to win.
IF HE LISTENS TO COACH HE'LL BE FINE AND I AGREE ABOUT BEING A LOT BETTER AT THE END OF THE YEAR . IT LOOKED LIKE THERE WAS FRICTION BETWEEN HE AND KD TO ME , BUT I HAVE BEEN WRONG BEFORE , AND MAY BE NOW . I HOPE THEY PULL TOGETHER B/C THE CEILING IS HIGH FOR THIS TEAM IF THEY DO .04-cheers.....................................ALSO KD MADE SOME HORRIBLE PASSES LAST NIGHT 03-hissyfit
