Both teams sit at a disappointing 1-3 in the CAA so far. Towson was able to do something the Dukes could not and that's win at Elon (by 17 in their CAA opener). Since then though, the Tigers have lost 3 straight. Really, it's 4 straight overall as they lost Wednesday night in a non-conference game to Cornell by a dozen at home.

Towson is 5-12 on the season (4-12 vs D1). The Good Guys swept the season series last year. Hopefully, Coach Rowe and the guys can build off their last performance last Saturday which was the upset win over Charleston.

The Tigers have one player averaging double digits scoring. He is 6'4" Junior Guard, Brian Fobbs. Fobbs averages 15.9 ppg. They are not a particularly good 3-point shooting team at 31.9%, though they are not bad at the FT line as a team (72.4%).

I expect the Dukes to open around 5 pt favorites. JMU has shown how bad we can be this season on multiple occasions and how good we can be on now multiple occasions. For chances of avoiding the Keener Invitational, games like these must be won. It might be snowing outside Saturday at tip time, but hopefully the students will get out to the Convo and the Good Guys will be hot.

FWIW, other Thursday night games in the CAA...

Drexel and Charleston are locked in a tie game with 5' left 1st half in Charleston.

Northeastern leads at Elon 31-20 with 5' left 1st half at Elon.

Delaware with a 4 pt lead at UNCW just under 4' 1st half.

Hofstra and W&M tied in Williamsburg with 6' 1st half.

GO DUKES!
Not a good three point shooting team huh? So they'll go 7 for 10 in the first half with a hand in the face of each one? Home game against a bad league team SHOULD be a win.

I'll say 76-72, good guys.
Need to win this game......Its home, we are coming off a big win over COC. Build momentum right now

Dukes 77
Towson 68
The Dukes should win this game against a depleted Towson team. Not only did they lose 5 seniors, the backbreaker was losing Zane Martin who was 3rd in CAA scoring as a Sophomore at 20ppg. He transferred to New Mexico and now Towson can’t score at all.

On the strength of the hot shooting night vs CoC, JMU has gotten out of the cellar in team shooting %. Guess who is last now. That is right, Towson.

Skerry still coaches the same fulll contact basketball and the Tiggers will out rebound almost every team, but they aren’t as dominant on the boards as past years.

This is a matchup where Rowe can play a bigger lineup to battle on the boards. Zone often and win.

JMU should win comfortably at home
JMU 75
Towson 64
2 Thursday night CAA games going to OT...

Northeastern at Elon + Hofstra at W&M
Huge upset in Charleston tonight. Drexel was down 2 at the end but a 3-point shot was fouled with just a few seconds left. Drexel's Harper hits all 3 clutch free throws to pull out the 1-pt win.

Delaware heads down to UNCW and takes out the Seahawks by an impressive 13 point margin.

W&M hits a 3 at the buzzer to take their home game against Hofstra into double overtime. edit note: Hofstra looking to win their 11th straight game and remain the only team in the CAA with an undefeated conference record...game is tied with 16 seconds left in 2nd OT...and, they go to triple OT in W'burg

Northeastern holds a 7 pt lead at Elon in overtime with 40 seconds left. In OT, NU's All-CAA Pusica gets his 2nd technical foul of the game and is ejected. edit note: NU goes on to win in OT by 11 pts, 81-70
Perhaps CoC isn't as good as everyone thought. If they keep losing, the upset we had on them won't look so impressive.
Hofstra hangs on in triple OT to get the win at W&M by 3.

Updated CAA Standings after Thursday night's games...

1. Hofstra 4-0
2. Delaware 4-1
3. W&M 3-2
T4. Charleston 2-2
T4. Northeastern 2-2
T4. UNCW 2-2
-------------------------------(the Keener Line)
7. Drexel 2-3
T8. JMU 1-3
T8. Towson 1-3
10. Elon 1-4
Thought for the day...

...Dukes are 5-2 at home this season so far (3-2 vs D1). The 2 losses were in OT. So, we haven't lost a game at the Convo during the 40 minutes of regular time.

There are 7 home games left on the schedule starting tomorrow vs Towson. If the Dukes can protect the home floor, at minimum we enter the CAAT with a 8-10 record in the CAA (that's assuming no road wins in the remaining 7).

For reference, last year Towson with a 8-10 record was the 5-seed in the CAAT (read: avoided the Keener Invitational). The previous year, Northeastern went 8-10 and was the 6-seed. However, in 2016 Charleston went 8-10 and was in the Keener Invite as the 7-seed.

The Good Guys need to win at home and then swipe a couple of wins on the road. That inexplicably bad effort at Elon still makes me 03-banghead. 01-lauramac2
This could be the year where 9-9 gets you in the Keener round. Any game in the league is up for grabs.

Yep. While Hofstra appears to be the class of the CAA so far, their last 2 wins were each by 3 pts (Northeastern at home and then last night's 3OT win at W&M).

And, to your point, it has happened before. In 2015, in fact. Delaware and Drexel tied for 6th each at 9-9. Drexel wound up with the 7-seed due to losing tie-breakers to UD.

Dukes need to just take it one game at a time. They need to put their game faces on, whatever that means (insert infamous Bobby Knight presser here). They need to give 110%, though not sure how that is physically possible. They need to play together as a TEAM because there's no I in TEAM. (Welcome to the Wear Purple Tired Overused Sports Cliche Fest!) Our guys need to sprinkle magic winning dust on one another...OK, that's not really a sports cliche as I just made it up, but nobody cares anyway.

FOATTI?

This one may well warrant IC status. But I’ll leave that up to you.

Well done!
Good Guys open as 5.5 pt favorites. O/U = 130.

Other CAA games Saturday...

2pm - Drexel +3.5 at UNCW

4pm - Delaware +10 at Charleston

4pm - Northeastern -1 at W&M

7pm - Hofstra -13.5 at Elon
JMU wins 75-70
Stick with what's working coach even if it means minimal minutes from the bench.
Dukes win 66-61 as per analytics site.
dukes lose in ot after leading by 14 - per recent history

i so badly want to believe we can get this turned around, but the dukes break my heart every time i take them back. it truly is an abusive relationship.
Encouragement for the day ... Rowe owns Towson.
He is 3-1 in his career vs Towson which is his best record vs any CAA opppnent.

This game may be hard to watch with the 2 worst shooting teams in the CAA, but Rowe should move to 4-1 against the Tiggers.

This is so true 03-banghead
Cameron Smith should have been a walk on. A shame we are wasting a scholarship on someone who is never going to play. Is Flowers going to redshirt?
Money comes in on Towson prior to Tip JMU -3. Lets see if last week was a fluke
