Trevor Andrews, former DC at William and Mary.
A bio of coach Trevor Andrews from W&M. https://tribeathletics.com/coaches.aspx?...h=football

"In addition to the postseason recognition, four of his former players have gone on to sign NFL contracts during the past four seasons."

"During his tenure as the Tribe’s defensive line coach, Andrews mentored a pair of 2010 NFL Draft picks."

"Andrews recruits the Virginia Peninsula, Washington, D.C., Maryland (Frederick, Carroll, Montgomery, Howard), Northeast New Jersey (and Monmouth & Ocean County), Indiana, Connecticut and Rhode Island."

18 years at 1 school. Don't see that very often.
Wow, looks like a pretty good hire.
Says he's the recruiting coordinator for W&M, and recruits Indiana and the mid-Atlantic states. That's encouraging.
Steve Neal, former Bronco who went to Lion staff posted last night Lester had hired new WR coach who played at Miami, O. Looked for it today and he deleted post. Anybody see that?
I have to wonder if EJ Biggers would come back to WMU as CB coach. That would be a huge addition... I think he's probably making tons of loot down in South Florida running his football camps though...

Great idea. Would help our recruiting in South Florida. Keep that Jeff Bertani connection going.
What happened to the six-hour recruiting radius? It’s six hours by car according to PJ.

I thought TL commented that it was a good principle shortly after his hiring. I think it is still mostly in use. Fleck did recruit outside that six hour radius sometimes. Bogan is from NJ for example. This new LB coach recruited Indiana which is good for the six hour radius.
Some of you posters are trashing Lester for hiring "buddies" especially that had ties to WMU (not to mention him being hired as HC) - and now are proposing we bring back other alumni (like Biggers for ex.)?

Can't have it both ways.

It's still the staple, very much so. Even in his opening press conference Fleck said we'd go outside it at times.
Think this is a good hire his defenses have been pretty solid. And gives us a good mid Atlantic recruiting presence.
Not from the Cubit coaching tree or friend of Lester or former coworker of anyone on the staff: CHECK

Proven success and plenty of experience in D-I football: CHECK

D Coordinator and recruiting coordinator experience: CHECK

Looks to be a solid hire.

Now...for the open D coordinator position...any chance we could get Paul Shaffner? Current Colgate defensive coordinator. His defense was amazing this year. 77 points against in 11 games. 26 PA in 6 conference games. 5 shutouts. Army only scored 28 on them, JMU only scored 20. Interestingly enough, former WMU GA Jordan Belfiori is on that staff as the OLB coach.

I agree. Do NOT hire buddies!

I am not sure I’d say Biggers is a buddy but he is a former NFL CB who currently runs a DB specific agility and skills academy for players in south Florida. Doesn’t look like a bad candidate to me if he was to be on a short list.

You do know Fleck hired Pinkham and Ciarrocca because they had worked together at Rutgers, right?

Buddies? Enemies? Alumni? Lovers?

It does not matter.

Results matter.

Beat Central Michigan and regularly be in the MAC Championship mix in November and Lester may hire whoever he wants.

Regularly lose to CMU and not be a contender...time for a new head coach and staff.

^^^this. Could care less whether he has a direct relationship with a coaching hire or none at all. Results speak for themselves.

Lester announced when he was hired at WMU that he was calling upon his friends, and that for years they all talked about getting together for their dream situation. Far be it for me to discourage buddies getting together for some professional assignment like they had always dreamed about, but it does make it much harder to tune those colleagues up, or terminate them.

Assistant coaches should be hired because they are better than the other candidates. I fear that was a secondary consideration with Lester and many of his hires.

Sure fleck worked with his assistants and knew them well, but I believe he hired them because he thought they fit his vision best.
